Barnsley AGAIN giving our most valuable assets away There are very few strikers of the quality of O'Grady in the 1st Division. At the end of next season O'Grady could very easily have been the difference between staying in the Ist Division or Promotion to the Championship. This is the first time in years that I haven't bought a season ticket........my strategy is to watch what happens in pre-season regarding players brought in and players sold. If this news is true and O'Grady has been given away then the money for the season ticket will obviously be staying in my pocket. And I would imagine hundred more people will be thinking the same
Oh, and I won't be attending next season if this is true. Not unless we start getting the truth from the REAL man in charge. Because if he's gone for 500k, then Mansford cannot be trusted to speak the truth.
Year after year this is happening at Barnsley..........its not selling players that's a problem Every player in the world has got a price. The problem seen at Barnsley is that they more or less give their players away. Until a new owner can be found I think Barnsley is just going to rumble on like it has over the last 9 or 10 years since Pat Cryne has been in charge. An object lesson in 'how to tread water for 10 years'.
Sick of it, to be honest. Time after time, no matter who's in the boardroom. Ever since Hill got the job, we've been robbed when selling players.
Of course they are - they will know we paid much less than that for him and will be questioning why as we are being relegated we are able to sell him at a profit - if it was us we would be saying anything over £200K is a rip off Doesnt make them right though - if it was up to me I would have kept him if that was all we are getting but my feeling is the club has looked at 500K fee + 300K in wages = 800K and decided we could do better with a player that we dont need to pay as much for and will cost us less in wages. I am not so sure but time will tell I think we should have tried for a 1million fee and settled for anything over 750K but what do I know
If he'd played for League One Sheffield United, how much would they have sold him for - even before the arrival of their toilet-roll prince? A lot more than 500k.
I know he would - I was just saying how the Charlton fans will see it - to be honest if he had played for Peterborough they wouldnt have sold him for 500K
Seems everyone is playing Football Manager and deciding what O'Grady is worth. Who knows what he's worth- I certainly don't know. All I do know is that he, like any other player, is only ever worth what somebody will pay. Having said all this, I did once sell a London Tykes pin badge on ebay for nearly as much as we're getting for CoG Fck it, he's definitely going. That's for sure. Just hope we spend whatever we get wisely and not Sp*nked on wages for waste of space loanees.
This was well flagged up when Danny said "15 goals in a relegated side - I'd be amazed if someone didn't come in for him". We have put him in the window with the red light on and his nickers showing.
Exactly. I don't mind turning up every other week watching us lose, I've grown accustomed to it. I obviously want us to be the regular victors, but yep, not arsed. Don't support Tarn for any kind of glory. However, I'm ****** if I'm going to keep being mugged off by the club I support. Since the season ended, and even before it had, Mansford promised us that we would not be in trouble financially. In fact, he said we were healthy, and cited numerous reasons for this. He promised us that none of our contracted players would be sold on the cheap. He referred to the Golbourne deal as proof of a 'change' in our mindset since he replaced Don. So if we've actually accepted such a ***** offer for O'Grady, then he's lied to us for months. I don't like liars. I certainly don't see myself putting money into a club run by liars. Run by people lying, in order to take money off me. No way. Mansford had the opportunity (before the Charlton game, and this past weekend) to admit that yes, the club was skint and would need to move players on etc. I would have accepted that. But as I say, he said quite the opposite. They reeled in 90% of last years season ticket holders with the early bird offer, claiming the club needed money early to recruit better players early. Those fans did that, but probably because they didn't want an increase in their ticket price for a season of football a level lower. But still, they did it. Well, now the club can do as it pleases as they've got their money. But folk like me who pay on the day will think twice.
You don't have to sell for what they're willing to pay though. Just tell em to **** off and we'll keep him for the season. I'm seriously worried about the club's finances if we're having to sell our best asset for half a million, it's pittance.
I imagine that's cos there isn't a line of multimillionaires waiting in line to take us over that have BFC at heart. Sent from my D5503 using Tapatalk
It's about time we start getting the going rate for players, we seem to have done OK on the Golbourne deal so maybe that is an indicator that the new regime aren't going to give O'Grady away, under Don the tipping point for the club to accept always seemed to be £500,000 and other clubs probably saw us the place to get a bargain. Of course the actual reported transfer fees have to be taken with a pinch of salt as most clubs tend to keep them hidden at this level, I bet half the time it's just a random figure that some up his own @rse journalist has plucked out of thin air.
And this is eerily reminiscent of the way we let Danny walk after relegation from the Prem - mere days after the 'renewal' deadline (which was not, btw, Danny's fault). Totally different hierarchy and ownership at the club now but somehow, the behaviour never seems to change. Patrick Cryne is surely the richest owner we've ever had, but I recall seeing a while back that his fortune was in the region of 30-35 Million. I think that was before the crash. So not sure what he'd be worth now, but when you see that Tony Stewart has apparently put 25 Million into Rotherham, you can see what we're up against. New ownership........ or the club will slowly perish.
From what I've heard we are fine financially it's the wages to 60% of turnover where we are struggling although it doesn't seem to be clear how that applies to players already under contract.
I get what you're saying, but I think the time to have a reasonable debate about such matters is after the event - and only then of the fee is in the public domain. Certainly don't think a one paragraph article on the website of a South London rag is evidence enough to accuse BM of openly lying to us Maybe he has, maybe he hasn't. Maybe we'll never know. But I know he's never gonna say we have to sell to balance the books as that would be open season for cheeky bids. That's just daft
