It's just our luck that one of the richest people in the country is from Barnsley but apparently has no interest in football whatsoever!
if it IS true £500k is horses hit ... Should be close to a million Mansford has yet to prove to me he is capable of anything other than presenting a steaming turd as a new form of Balti pie. Let's hope a year in he can get something right. As yet he has done nothing I have noticed & I've been looking fairly closely.
..................'All I do know is that he, like any other player, is only ever worth what somebody will pay'..........................is he though ??? When it comes to O'Grady and relevantly talented players like him in this division, there is also another consideration other than what he is worth at that moment in time..........and that consideration is this - what value has this player in our quest for promotion ??? So the consideration is this: Is £500k better in the bank? Can we get a similar or better player for just £500k? Should we stay with O'Grady in the hope he will be the difference in getting us promoted next season? In my opinion..........I would stick with O'Grady principally because we aren't going to get anyone better for that price.
Don never disclosed the fees but it didn't stop us having a whinge at him. If the fee is under 750k, we've been mugged off, in more ways than one. But aye, I'm going to chill the **** out for a while, see where the land lies later etc.
he is constantly slagged off by Barnsley people for doing something with his life, why would he set himself up for more.
I wouldn't have got one if they'd been flogging em from August. I was never getting one. But I did say at the time (I was the only one who did) that the early bird was a joke, and a ruse to get your monies in early so then they could do as they pleased afterwards.
And I would agree with that wholeheartedly. Unfortunately the transfer market isn't as black and white as that - wish it was!
We paid a reported 600k for a 30+ year old Andy Gray after Charltons relegation from this division. COG is twice the player and definitely a better goalscorer. I'm struggling to believe this 500k can be accurate. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Tapatalk
i was very impressed when i spoke to jason ...but the jury is out so far and this rumour does not help. The jury will deliver their verdict next may i reckon.
Me neither to be honest but if they don't count then surely it would take a few years to actually take effect given that a lot of clubs will have players on long term contracts signed before the rule came in.
That's not the case at all YT and I have to say that comment has irked me. Some of us choose to SUPPORT the club regardless of what goes off behind the scenes. He's a player, a small dot in our history, we move on as we have done hundreds of times before.
Suppose we'll be able to judge better when we see how transfers are handled this summer but I can't help feeling that he is just telling us what we want to hear in order to sell more season tickets. We must have spent more last season than any other season since we've been back in the Championship. Butland won't have been cheap and was never the difference between us winning or losing a game, then there was obviously the busy January where we got rid of players who probably averaged something like two grand a week and replaced them with equally ineffective players on four or five times more money.
Rob staton on twitter spoken to BFC. Statement they will only make a deal if and when it's right for Barnsley. Feel we prob will sell him but Mansford really will not want to be mugged off for £500k having biggest COG up and mentioned once or twice he knows about being an agent, and indicated BFC weren't there for the plucking any more. If, and it's a big if, he goes for less than £1m it's embarassing for all involved.
It was a lovely person of a comment, in hindsight. Not surprising though. I made it. I do agree with you in that he's just a player. I don't mind us selling him. But I've had enough of us selling players for much less than they're worth, much less than other clubs do, shittier clubs at that. It makes the whole 'develop to sell' strategy a load of ********.
Good grief Andy. Even taking into account your propensity for hissy fits, that's pretty poor. As is calling people running the club liars and putting it down in black and white.
