BRF's post on Keef Kords biography got me thinking - and yes it does hurt when I think before anyone asks.......... The current Mrs Wilko Johnson has a kindle (bestest pressy I ever bought her apparently) and being the bookworm she is, has it almost glued to the palm of her hand. Coupla questions 1 - do people still prefer 3-D kindles (books) like me or kindles like the missus? 2 - she gets her (e) books from a (ahem) free to download website but this site does not do (auto)biographies which I tend to read - are there any aforementioned 'free' websites that do (auto)biographies? Oh and by the way the last biography I read was Wilko's - my fave pressy this xmas just gone
Proper books. Can't bear to give them up. Books are beautiful, the spines on show are a key part of our house. And us. I do read them too I'd add, not just decorative!
I prefer a good old fashioned book. The only time (realistically) I get to read a book is on holiday, and I just find (despite what the adverts would have you believe) that a book is easier to view than a kindle. That said, Kindle books are definitely cheaper.
Not to confuse the options, but I love audio books too. I find them very relaxing. I have a subscription for about £8 p/m to an audio book club and I get one free per month. Tons of auto biographies and biogs on there. Quality does depend on whether you like the narrator's voice tho'. On the plus side you store them on the cloud and download them as you need them (on your phone or tablet).
There's room for both if you have space in your house for bookshelves I have to admit that I got rid of loads of books in the last few years but I still have a few that I don't want to part with, one or two of which I have not yet read. But The Kindle........ah, what an invention that was. I read every single day, either using my Kindle or iPhone because the clever thing is that you can download your books to both devices for the price of one download and then the two are synchronised. In other words I might read my Kindle at night time before sleeping but then pick up the story the next day on the iPhone, or vice versa. They both know which page I am on. Is that a magical invention, or what??? I love it
I love books, reading, studying and can spend hours in a decent bookshop. Kindles aren't really for me.
Personally, I enjoy having audiobook and ebook at same time on my tablet. An interesting way to read.
Books for me. I like the advert for the anti-glare kindle. You can read it no matter where the sun is. Just like a real book then.
Only ever listened to one audio book, the Alan Partridge autobiography. Brilliant, as it was read by Coogan as Partridge.
Books at home. Kindle on holiday. I read every day on holiday and can read 4 books easily - they'd weigh a ton and take up to much room in the suitcase. With the Kindle it's a doddle to read with one hand and the wind doesn't make any difference. I can also up the font size so I don't need to wear my reading glasses. At home it's nice to lay in bed and read proper paper pages and it's therapeutic to turn the page over. Also I might leave it a week before I pick it up again by which time the battery needs recharging on the kindle.
Books definitely, I refuse to get a kindle as I love holding books and physically turning the pages over. I've tried reading on various computerised forms, but I just can't enjoy it the same at all. I do have a huge problem of not having anywhere to store all my books though (it takes me around 3-4 hours to read an average 500-700 page book). My dream is to have a library in my house one day.
I'm not a regular reader but when I do I prefer books. I've got a Nexus and I have a few ebooks on it but it just doesn't feel right.
definitely 'real' books. try dropping a kindle compared to a real book. i am biased though - i worked in a book shop for 4 years
