Watching cricket and those lads love their stats! Record run scorers, wicket takers etc. Anyone (and yes I've looked) got a say, top 50 goal scorer list for us?!? Ta la
I've got a mental one (sad fecker I know) but I can't be arsed to write it down. Don't know of any links to one. Sent from my iPad using Tapatal
Me neither, can't find one! So transpose your mental one thro the medium type stylee and we'll sort it thro telepathy
I'm not sure what you mean by top career goal scorers. Total amount of goals scored for us during their whole time with us? Here's a link that only includes players from 2007 onwards, you can use it as a starting base to slot previous players into. http://www.11v11.com/teams/barnsley/tab/stats/option/scorers Apparently Ernest Hine 123 goals is the top scorer for Barnsley FC. during 1921-26 and 1934-38 accordiing to this: http://www.kgbanswers.co.uk/who-is-barnsley-fcs-highest-ever-goal-scorer/2402482#ixzz33c8r7j42 and this: http://betting.ladbrokes.com/en/barnsley-odds
I think he's after the all-time career stats. The only one I know for definite is No 1 - Ernest Hine with 131 goals. Ronnie Glavin would be up there with 73 Most will be pre-war 'cos anyone who scored a fair number of goals these days would be sold before he could get anywhere close to a record.
Depends if you're looking for league goals only or league and cup. Redfearn got 83 in total and Glavin 92. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
What a depressing list that is. 8 years in the championship and not a single player scored more than 22 goals for us.
Quite depressing that no forward has scored 20 goals plus league goals since Brian Joicey and no one at all since Glavin's 20 in 1979/80 which I think naked it 35 years next year Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
No they don't count as League goals. I guess because they are additional games not part of the official league programme. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I think the top 20 is 1. Ernie Hine 131 2.George Lillycrop 104 3. Lol Chappell 95 4. Ronnie Glavin 92 =5. Borough Fletcher 83 =5 Joe Halliwell 83 =5. Neil Redfearn 83 8. Frank Bartlett 80 9. Teddy Ashton 73 10. Harry Tufnell 70 11. Bruce Dyer 69 12. Tony Leighton 64 13. Frank Eaton 61 =14. Mick Butler 60 =14. Arthur Kaye 60 16. Jimmy Baxter 59 17. Johnny Evans 59 18. Bobby Brown 58 19. Russell Wainscoat 56 20. Ken Oliver 54 Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Ernie Hine's record will NEVER be beaten. Not a chance. In fact, there's more chance of us getting back to the Premier League.
Genuinely surprised Tony Rees didn't make it on to the list. I've watched Barnsley in 5 decades and I've only seen 3 of that 20 play. It's possible I also saw Mick Butler play, but I was too young to remember. I never realised Bobby Brown scored so many goals for us. Clearly a better football player than a singer.
Does anyone know owt about Cec McCormack's career? This is his wiki page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cec_McCormack I know he holds the record for most goals in one season for us, and he looks as though he then left for Notts County. What level were we at then, what level were Notts? Might seem a random request but I'm intrigued as to how he ended up at Kings Lynn after scoring so many goals.
We talked about this last week. Cec McCormack during the war was a fitter which, in the time of maximum wage in football, earned him more money than playing football. There was a lot of rich non league clubs about who paid as much wages as league clubs, but as they were only part time allowed the player to work full time in a job the clubs arranged for them, allowing for 2 wages When Peterborough were promoted to the league in 1960 they had 5 former Barnsley players for them, all working at Perkins engines in Peterborough. Sadly money now has ruined football so those days are gone forever. Cec McCormack played for a few rich non league clubs while working as a fitter a job that he enjoyed and he got a job in Canada where he lived right up to his death in 1994, I used to write to him a couple of times a year a smashing bloke.
I've only seen 4. Mick Butler was an ex miner. Had a multitude of injuries & when he was eventually sold to Huddersfield he was crocked. My Dad saw a few more & my great grandad, who lived to 97 saw Hine & us lift the cup.
I've only seen 4 myself though in the list not much further down you have Banks 51, Rammell 50, Currie 48 and Payton 45. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
