I though the problem last season was Flicker dilly dallying on his own Contract, by which time he had that sorted, we were very close to the season starting, so he panicked and bought a crock of sh!te? Thus, pre-season being weakened/diluted. Im all for trying to establish a squad ahead of pre-season and using this to maximise our start. But if agents and players are delaying to try and win the best contracts, there's not a lot you can do.
A few voices among the masses though that Dys, they want it here and want it now and will yet again show the board up for having very little backbone. Hope to god we have a decent start this time, but the longer we have to wait for what we can afford, once the players are back in training then that looks less likely with little time to gel.
Precisely. There's absolutely no way you can put a deadline on signings, there are too many variables. It's not only us in the situation, there's plenty of other clubs/players waiting for someone else to move before they can go ahead with their own deals. Probably not the most productive way of running a business but if we hold firm, identify targets and are successful in getting who we want I've got faith in Danny. As Dyson has said, my disappointment with Flicker was the fact that he reversed/folded the ideals he himself had championed before the season started. Unlike some managers prior to him, he can have few complaints about the financial (and otherwise) backing he received. When push came to shove, it started to go sour and rather than stick to his principles he repeated the same mistakes all managers make. Even if we have the squad all done and dusted weeks before kick off I suspect we'll have a sluggish start. A rebuild is required and it'll take longer than a few weeks of pre-season to complete it. Patience and sense from all required.
Once we get 6-7 youth lads in squad and playing regularly, we want to be poaching 12/13 year olds from Wednesday United Leeds Donkey Huddersfield & Rotherham. Showing them that at 17/18/19 they'll be getting their chance in the first team if their good enough what with the training ground and first team chances earlier then most we'd take a few I'm sure but we'll not do that building for the future
I think Danny has massive balls. Have you seen some of the interviews he's given? Watford away he scared the **** out of me.
Half a season into a three year rebuild, are we happy with the progress so far? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
What a load of ********. They should bd identifying the players we need and seeing if we can get them. Then if we can't we have time to move on to the next target. Instead of putting it all off. Another season where we end up with the bottom of the ****ing barrel.
I used to play the waiting game doing my shopping int tarn on a a setdi. Wait till the market is ready to close and you could pick up the soft tomatoes that no fecker wanted for next to nowt. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Have you had your head down a hole for the last 6 Weeks? You do not listen....We have no money, a shortfall running towards 6 million. Bobby told us,we'll be playing the kids, and getting journey men at the end Aug for low money The fans must stay with the club next season. The first time the crowd turns at home, the kids will be finished and so will we To all them that though religion would be ok...welcome to the reality. Sent from my GT-S5830i using Tapatalk 2
The 3 year rebuild started 1st May. You can't count signing lads on 6 month contracts and loans as a 'rebuild'.
Where are you getting this from? Good old Ben told us on 28th April that we would have a "very competitive" budget. His exact words.
Might just be paper talk but the Chron's back page story this week is very worrying if true. With only seven contracted players from last season's squad still onboard we're very close to the limit with regard to the cap under the financial fair play rules. Won't just be O'Grady heading out if that's true.
To be fair to Danny, in his interview he never once said he'd be willing to wait until August 31st to sign his targets. What he actually said was, "if we get to the end of the window and I get my first target, I'll take it". I took that to mean the one player he covets the most. Especially when just three seconds after that comment, he said we could have new players here next week, or there could even be one waiting outside the door for him. It's a game of chess at this stage, a waiting game, a time to be patient. The players return to their clubs on June 30th (not July 1st), as it's a Monday. So even if we signed 10 players next week, they'd not be 'gelling' etc for another three weeks.
Again, he never said he was holding off, never even suggested as much. Nor is he hesitating. Listen to the interview, FFS. But then, it was you who posted in the thread I created regards that interview and said summat along the lines of "you'll hear nowt new from him". Yet we must have, because thar bairning about him. Again.
Not what he said though. You're making it up. He said that players will be made an offer, and if they say no, we move on. However, perhaps he might wait for a decision for as long as possible if it's a player he sees as his priority target or whatever. And I agree, that then is running a risk. But such is life.
Danny said he would recruit only the right individuals. Those who want to play for us. So whenever someone signs for us, have faith that EVERY one of these players will be wanted by Danny, and want to represent Barnsley FC. Which is the complete opposite of 90% of the players he had here last season.
