I'm thinking of getting a bike for a bit of trail and road biking. Got up to £300 to spend but wanting a bit of advice on what's best for my money. Been looking at a carerra subway, vengeance and Vulcan but I don't have a Scooby on what to look out for regarding specs etc. Cheers in advance
I got a Carrera Zelos for a charity bike ride I did last year and loved it. I know naff all about bikes but them with more expensive ones with me kept breaking down, mine kept going.

I'm up at the back of sainsburys in the o.a.p. bungalows, theres some good rides around here, you can pick one up at the side of the bridge inn that takes you to stairfoot then onto the trans pennine trail and upto Penistone or over to donny
B-twin bikes at Decathlon get great reviews. Hybrid perfect for road and trail, thats how I got started 3 years ago. I had a cheap mountain bike when I started, and then bought a Scott hybrid when I'd lost a stone and half. £360 from Geared Up in Wombwell, never had a bit of bother from it. Best advice, get good tyres. My bike has got better rubber than my car. Sent from my SM-T210 using Tapatalk
I got a Scott Aspect 710 a couple of months ago through the cycle to work scheme £600 worth of push iron and I fcking love it just been out for a steady hour this evening. 1 tip purchase some padded shorts and a gel seat. Otherwise your arse and ball bag will tingle for around a week after
problem I'm having is whether to go mountain or hybrid. Main use is gonna be trail but maybe a little road too. Been looking at a boardman this aft but not had the balls to go for it.
Seen some nice Boardmans in Halfrauds today. I'd always go mountain bike and have a spare set of tyres. We live in such a fantastic area of the country for off road and the TPT it's a shame to even have to go on road.
£500 will get you much more than £300. My advice to you. Get on some bike or tri club forums and look for one second hand. They're always flogging bikes for good money and they're always well looked after. I paid £350 for my Giant Defy 2. You'll prob get 2nd hand bike with Shimano Tiagra for £500. Maybe carbon forks as well if you're lucky. Don't just rock up to a bike shop and buy off the shelf Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I got one on the cycle to work scheme (Cannondale, not sure what model), trouble with that is their eyes light up in the shop when you tell them that's how you're paying and think I ended up with a load of stuff I didn't need...ended up being about £750, bike was just under £600 if I remember right. It's a good scheme though, zero finance charge and as it comes out of your wage before tax you do save a fair bit, think I've just got one payment left now.
The one I was most annoyed about was the computer thing, £50 for some generic device that I could have got off Amazon for a tenner. For some reason I was just walking round nodding like a Churchill dog while I was in the shop that day, probably because I didn't want to come across as the complete novice cyclist that I am.
