Re: agree with you here, Flash

The squad will look very bare if and when the more coveted players go (which I think we all realise and expect at least 2 to happen).

At present though, we have 14 players who have played for us. That includes Mellis, Cywka and O'Brien who may or may not accept their offered contracts. 3 of them have played less than 10 games (Digby, Rose and Bree). And obviously it includes Steele, O'Grady, Cranie and Jennings who may be subject to interest.

We then have Dibble (also mulling over a contract), Oates, Abbott, Maris, Smith, Nana, McKnight and Cowgill who haven't yet played a game but i'd expect to see them in some form through the season.

If we lose all 4 of the coveted players, the offered contracts aren't accepted and we have no signings before the first few weeks of July, then I'll be more concerned.

But to be honest, I'm delighted that we're having a complete clear out because the brand of football, the attitude and character of players and the connect with fans has been dysfunctional for a long time now.

Jay's right - nobody really knows what's going on behind the scenes. I accept that you are sceptical that nothing is going on, apart from offering **** deals to new and existing players, and that may well be the case, but I personally prefer to hear nothing until the day that they announce a definite signing.

In the past the club made the mistake of telling the whole world who we were after, and very often that ended with some other club picking that same player up for an extra few quid on top of our offer.

In the last 12 months that has changed and we quite rightly now keep our cards close to our chests, the downside to that is our fans automatically take that to mean **** all is happening!

It's a lot of whinging about nowt this isn't it. The vast majority of league clubs have signed no one. Seems people just want us to sign any old crap to say that we have done so. Can we move on now pretty please.

I don't actually think nothing is happening, far from it. I don't doubt for a minute that we are talking to plenty of players. It's more the fact that none of them have so far been attracted enough to the club to sign on the dotted line. That to me suggests that the offers we are making are not that attractive at League 1 level, particularly when one player deemed Port Vale a better option than us.
Things may very well change in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Let's hope they do.

But you'd have the money if we bought the players you want? Teddy and pram come to mind.

They could provide a creche. With lots of toys and prams.

I understand people have genuine reasons for not getting a season ticket, a lot may genuinely not be interested. That's fair enough. But to use us not signing certain players and by a certain date as a reason just smacks of spoilt child syndrome. And then to gloat about not getting a ST for those reasons is pathetic. If you're not putting money in the club you have no right to complain about them not spending money.

Just my opinion, others are available.

As a kid, I remember my Grandad chuntering about the club just about every day. Whatever they did, it was never good enough. They didn't want to go up, they couldn't afford players, etc

When we got promoted, rather than celebrate, he instantly said they wouldn't stay up. He revelled in waiting 12 months to say told you so.

Sadly, there are many like him. I don't understand why, maybe it's just the Barnsley mentality, are fans at other clubs as bad? For every fan, there seem to be 5 who are happy moaning that have no intention of going (i'm talking generally now, not people on here necessarily).

Many people keep plowing money into this club time and time again, some will for ever, and some think **** it theirs no ambition at the club what so ever I've done with it, and choose to spend their money on other things, you have to respect both persons choice. My old man was a Rotherham fan for over 20 years, then one day in early 80s they sold their best player for peanuts, he told his brother he's never going again and he hasn't, looking at it he's not missed much over the last 30 years

I don't think we will hear anything before at least next week. The players offered contracts had one month to reply and this now seems to be unfolding. We cannot do anything before they are sorted. Mellis is different. If we withdraw his offer we could lose a compensation pay out, due to his age. I am sure Danny will have options lined up.

I would consider it if the club showed some positivity off and on the field, yes.

Its not a case of throwing my teddy's out the pram, I have a mortgage this time round so it would have to be a worthwhile investment for me, but after our relegation and the fact that we seem to be stuck in limbo I can't justify forking out all that cash when it would be better used elsewhere.
I will pick and choose games to attend of course.

I have spent £1000s supporting the club over the last 35 odd years and have been a Member of the Centenary Society since its inception, and still am,
but I haven't renewed this coming season because the product on offer has become stale, unattractive and frankly boring to watch.
Nothings developing at Oakwell to suggest that things will change next season, in fact it possibly could become even worse.
I hope i'm totally wrong but until the displays become more attractive I have much better things in life to pursue than waste my money on watching such drivel.
The Club needs a complete overhaul starting from the top otherwise the stagnation will never go away.

Whilst I agree with everything else you said in that reply Jay, this bit isn't accurate. So far there have been 78 transactions, either signings or re-signings (not neo-pros or departures) at other L1 clubs, an average of 3.4 each. We are one of only five clubs who haven't done anything and of the other four, Donny are in the middle of a takeover and have kept most of last year's squad, Crewe tend to promote from within, Bristol City are spending £40m on their ground and Swindon are in court due to their boardroom disagreements. Without judging one way or the other about what's going on in the background, Oakwell is clearly quieter than almost everywhere else right now.

I don't have informants inside the club. Never have. Never said, nor even intimated that I had, either. Ever.

I've known a few 'employees' in recent years, but most have now left. Not once whilst employed did they give me 'information', other than us making small talk, and nor did I ever ask them for information. These are good, honest and loyal people I'm referring to, similar to myself, who loved being employed by BFC. Whether they spoke and gave information to other people, is their business. I can only speak for myself.

You're pretty new to the forum all things considered, but in the years I've been posting on here I've very rarely posted rumours. I've shared the odd bit of information passed onto me, as many others do. It's one of the main drivers of a football forum. In the main, I've shared things privately. Occasionally, I'll post it on the open forum. Depends what it is I'm passing on. 'Passing on' is the key phrase though. They're things I've been told. I know nothing myself with 100% certainty. But I do so in good faith, as I've faith in those passing it on. Sometimes the information comes to nothing, but sometimes it's proven true. Such is life.

But you're way out with 'inside informants'.

    Friends? Agents? Journalists? Outside informants?

    Perhaps.

As for the Byron Moore rumour, it's gone as I was told it probably would do. That his favoured destination was Port Vale. I was told he'd had 'talks' with the club/Danny/Ben last weekend. I have no idea if a deal was offered. I would imagine he's one of at least 20 players we've held talks with so far. Doesn't mean he's been offered a deal or that he's rejected us etc etc etc.

    Glad I've cleared that up.

Oh, and there's no need for an 'of' after the word myriad.

But well done on posting a football related post. Kind of. But 90% of your posts still refer to me or another forum user, and whilst flattering, I also find that a tad sad. Bless yer.
