So that's 38 signings completed. An average of 1.24 per club.

We are one of nine clubs not to have signed a player yet.

17 transfers are by just four clubs (Crawley, Sheff Utd, Gillingham, Notts County).

There isn't ONE stand out signing, in my opinion.

Always wondered.... do they actually sign them now or do they have to wait until july to (if they have a fee to pay) actually get the player?

So by some people's reckoning, the clubs with ambition and inevitably are going to be at least in the playoffs are, dem Blunts, Gillingham, Crawley and Notts County

Middlesbrough's players return to pre season training on the 30th of this month, a Monday. I expect it to be similar for most clubs. As for contracts, I really don't know. You'd think with me having all these informants and a step son ( :) ) for a footballer that I'd know these things..

So basically, some of us are getting our knickers in a twist because a few clubs have signed a few players we've never heard of, with 2 months to go before the start of the season!

    Yep.

And in the main, they're the lads who don't like/want Danny Wilson. Funny that.

Reight then, who out of that lot do we wish we had signed?

I'm no good at this. If they haven't played for Barnsley and if they haven't appeared on MOTD a lot then I don't know them. Can't say I'd particularly want to see us sign JCR. I liked him when he was here, apart from towards the end, but his best attributes were his pace, tenacity and stamina and can't see them being at the same level a few years on, now he's in his early 30s. Which of the others are any good? I'm not saying there aren't any, I don't know, but there must be loads of them to set off the threads we've been having lately.

    Rules is :

    Player's name mentioned.

    1. He'd be great - signs for someone else - we have no ambition

    2. He's **** - signs for somone else - should have taken a gamble - we have no ambition

Well Rochdale seem to have signed two characters out of the Goon Show, Notts County have signed a couple of players who were decent in the Premiership 15 years ago and Peterborough's signings would win at Scrabble.

Given that evidence.....I'll hold my hands up and admit that maybe I'm worrying unnecessarily.
I honestly thought there'd been more activity than that.
    Here's hoping I'm pleasantly surprised.

Jamie Jones, the keeper from Orient who's now got Wiseman in front of him, he'd have been a decent replacement for Steele if he were to leave (which he int). Other than that, they're all a bit meh, aren't they?

The proper business will start in July.

I look forward to us all giving whoever comes in at Oakwell a good few months before judging them. :)

June has always been a quiet month. Ben was announced in June last year, Flitcroft was a similar time i think. Watkins too, and then if i recall rightly the focus was on trying to get the existing players signed up but Jennings and the protracted signing of O'Grady aside, most other things were July and then the glut in August.

Not that it directly affects us, but because agents and players have a focus on the world cup, things tend to be a few weeks behind in a world cup year. Whether the players are in place early July or early August, i don't think we'll see a completely new team gel til November at the earliest (unless we're really lucky and things naturally click)

They did last time. Marcelle, Appleby, Thompson, Wilkinson and Bosancic all hit the ground running and we won our first 5 league matches. It'll not happen like that again, it can't, things that good just don't come round a second time, but we can dream. It beats the hell out of thinking everything is going to be ****.

True, but we did have Watson, Eaden, DeZeeuw, Davis, Sheridan, Redfearn, Bullock and Liddell (and more i'm sure have slipped my mind) that were a very good core and the infrastructure was well bedded in.

I'll take that now mind you! And i'm with you, i don't understand the self fulfilling negativity that is so inherent in parts of our fan base. If i think it's **** enough, maybe it just might be.

They can never take hope from you. And when hope is temporarily lost, you have something new to hope for come August.

Anyone got a time machine? I want to watch that season again. Don't think I'll bother with the two games against Oxford this time around though. Maybe I'll give the away fixture another go, but I'll not bother watching the game.

You watched the game??? What on earth possessed you? I spent 90 minutes amused by the Timmy Mallett abuse!
