Re: Day 1 Standings That sound about right. If they have predicted 2-2 they will get -1 from Croatia and +1 from Brazil, so a zero goal difference. Nowt wrong with the working out, but I can see some controversy brewing over the rules.
Re: Day 1 Standings Nope still baffled - I predicted 2-0 and got a goal diff of -2 - that makes sense as I was one goal out for both the home and away scores Those who predicted the correct score get a goal diff of zero Surely if you predicted 2-2 you would have a goal diff of -2 as you are 2 goals out (actually it would be -2 if you picked 1-1 and 3-3 as well if it works the way I think it does)
Re: Day 1 Standings Its the amount of goals scored in the game...4 So therefore 2-0 is two goals out 2-2 is 0
Re: Day 1 Standings Think it is right enough. I predicted 1-1 so got the Croatia score right but was 2 goals out with Brazil so a score of -2.
Ah so now I understand so if you predicted 4-1 or 3-2 you get a positive goal difference Thats a bit daft it just means if you think you know who will win but dont know the score you put down a 101 - 100 win and get a goal diff of nearly +200 no matter what the result
I think thats how it works, but like I said the nearer to a 0 GD the better. I suppose after a few more games GD won't come into it.
they should have just stuck with 3 points for correct score and 1 point for correct winner. GD is just stupid for me.
Scoring: 3 points for predicting the correct scoreline 1 point for predicting the correct outcome (home win, away win or draw) Predictions are determined within normal time. Extra time and/or penalties do not count Goal Difference: This represents how close your predictions are to the real results. The closer this is to 0 the higher you will be ranked. Leaderboard: Everyone is ranked in order of the highest points. Anyone with tied points is then ranked by the closest Goal Difference to 0.
You really should read the opening post again. You get a + goal difference if your team scores more goals than you predicted and a - goal difference if your team scores fewer goals than you predicted. For those that predicted 2-2, Brazil scored one more goal than they predicted, so +1 and Croatia scored one less so -1. Which equals zero. The point of goal difference is to get as near to zero as possible. That's what you're aiming for. That's the target. So +1 is just as bad as -1. +8 just as bad as -8. +200 is very bad indeed. The maths is perfectly correct. The problem lies in the system. Those that predicted a 2-2 draw and got the result wrong have the same goal difference as those who predicted the correct result and scoreline. The 2-2 fellas have a better goal difference than those who just predicted the correct result. In a few games time it won't mean as much as people will be separated by points rather than goal difference, but it's not ideal. Better than I could come up with though, so I should probably shut up.
OK got it now - personally I would have gone for just taking the differences and adding them so everyones goal difference could only get worse - then those with a 2-2 would be on -2 as they were out by one goal for both teams but as you say once we are a few games in it probably doesn't matter too much
I had spain vs holland as 1.1, am on 2 points and 0 goal difference so does that mean am on same points and +4 GD?
Only just joined? Where have you been? Anyway, you'll already be ahead of me, I think I'm on minus points. Gonna get relegated at this rate..... :frown:
Is there a way to just see the matches that are playing today without having to go through each group one by one? I did for today but it'd be nice if there was a quicker way. I don't really want to do them all in advance.
Don't think so JD. However, you can just predict the ones you want to do today, and come back at another time to do tomorrows etc. etc. Alternatively, change predictions already made before kickoff in the respective games.
