A sad reflection of football. Players let down club. Club loses money as a result. Players leave seeking more money.
A sadder reflection of football is fans who lump them all together as one. Jim was one of our best players last season who never let us down because he always gave 100%
It awaits to be seen whether we'l suffer from these rejections, but do they know something we dont from within the club?? Doesnt seem like the loyal players are willing to fight in league 1 and get us back to the championship. Are the wages been offered so bad?? Or is it the place of work the problem??
From the horses mouth - was willing to take a pay cut but what was offered wasn't just a pay cut it was a pittance
I like Jim. I've seen him run so much in some games that he could hardly walk after the final whistle. He puts in the kind of effort that we all say we would put in if we played for Barnsley. We wouldn't be able to, we wouldn't be fit enough, but we'd want to give everything, just like Jim. Having said all that, I don't think he's the greatest footballer. He has some games where he puts in good crosses or maybe scores a goal, but there are plenty of others where the crosses are over hit or don't beat the first man and he has a tendency to give the ball away. If Jim goes I'll miss him, but, depending on his replacement, it might not be as a player. I wish him all the best, he came to our club and gave his all, if he wants to try his luck somewhere else, that's absolutely fine. Thanks Jim, best of luck mate, hope it works out for you.
Obviously there are levels, but he did let us down at times, as did every player. Hillsborough would be a prime example through a very bad mistake that gave them a win. He didn't mean it, he tries. But if he was one of one better players, that only highlights how bad last season was. I think he's ok, expected him to reject the offer and search for a better pay day as high up as he could get. Because that's what players do. Managers take the flak, the players just move on and hope for more TV money and deny culpability.
I suggest he tries a real job...then he may found out what working for a pittance really is...... i am sure there some forumites here on the minimum wage he could ask...the knob. hth.
I agree with you re: Jim but the general point regarding players and money is bang on in my humble opinion.
Im sick of hearing how much he runs about. Being able to run about is an absolute given. We need players with quality. He was, in the main poor for us and a player that will go somewhere else and be equally as poor for them.
A lot of Barnsley fans think if you can't take the championship by storm you're *****, just because he's ***** at that level it doesn't mean he'll be ***** in league one or jock league.
they should have thought of that before the spineless bunch got us relegated.... and if we were that bad at our jobs, we wouldn't get a pay cut, we'd get the sack! hth
