Re: How long is the Whitey-Butterfield love fest going to continue? You do realise Mrs Whitey is JBs mum?
Re: How long is the Whitey-Butterfield love fest going to continue? No I didn't, sorry Whitey I owe you and apology.
Its market driven. While i agree with the comments regarding agents, its essentially what the clubs are willing to pay that determines their value. If they didnt pay it the salarys would reduce. Unfotunatley A) the mismanagement of some clubs coupled with B) extreme funds at others creates the situation we are in now, where some pay beyond their means and to some clubs money is no object. If we pay what all our players are asking without the incoming revenue then we are in the A group. The output though is that it leaves us uncompetitive when the market in which we compete is paying more than we can afford. Business 101 = Secure more income than you pay out.
Re: How long is the Whitey-Butterfield love fest going to continue? You don't need to apologise. You didn't know. But aye, at least now you know why I'm obsessed.
Why are they incapable of getting another job when they retire? A solider does what 8 years if he doesn't get blown up, leaves ... Gets a job. A policeman ... Does his time, leaves gets another job... Don't be apologetic about the short lived careers of the multi millionaire sportsman
Ever wondered if the club are deliberately offering wages that they know the players won't take? Players who are liked by part or all of the crowd, so when they leave the club can absolve themselves of blame if said players leave? Like with Bobby last year and Jim this year; the club can say "well, we offered a contract and it was turned down" (except Bobby accepted his and then this year they didn't take that risk with him.) Just a different angle. Probably ********.
That has crossed my mind. I do wonder if Danny would play games like that though, he strikes me more of a person who wouldn't pander to mind games, he always seems to talk straight in his interviews.
I Don't buy into this argument that players turning down contracts automatically means we have No money. The club will have offered contracts based on last years performance (poor) and the cost of recruiting comparable quality replacements (lower). This will be a pay cut for most. Inevitable some won't fancy that believing there's more money elsewhere or that they can Still play further up the pyramid. None of this implies we have an uncooperative budget...and I'd rather believe the club when they say this than players who may have an overinflated view of their own self worth. What we'd be foolish to do is break the bank to keep players when we can get the same for less money elsewhere.
Re: How long is the Whitey-Butterfield love fest going to continue? does that mean you will be changing your name to Buttercup? maybe a double barrelled affair..... White-Buttercup? .... that would be very rare!!!! I am so funny I crack myself up! hth
I did kind of feel let down by his pathetic clearence which lost us a game towards the end of the season. 100% or not.
Which is a bit like telling your kids that they've let you down if they fail an exam even if they put everything into it and tried their hardest.
