Not sure I agree. The lad scougall went to Sheffield at Xmas from livingston who are in same league and went straight into first team and played big role in the run in so gap in class not that big in my opinion.

Sorry mate, but you're wrong. Once a player turns 23 he is allowed to sign for another cross border club without compensation being due. That is exactly why Joe Ledley turning down Stoke and going to Celtic cost Cardiff a potential £3m compensation, as Ledley had turned 23. I'm afraid you won't be getting any compensation for him.

Sheffield United fans have been raving about Scougall on the local radio down here. Certainly one player who's performed in this division as well as he did in Scotland ' s championship.

No he's not. He was born on 8 April 1991.

This is turning into that Monty Python argument sketch!

    It could be !

barnsley have made an error. Cowdenbeath had this issue in jan window when a club made an enquiry for him quoting we should sell as he would be 23 at end of season.Club double checked contract and his birth certificate. I can assure you he is 22. If you check his wiki entry, he is listed as both 1991 and 1992 DOB. Don't know where the clubs inc Barnsley are getting there info but it's wrong

He was voted player of the year in that league.
So of the 130 or so players that played in that league, he was the best.
This suggests to me he should be alright in league 1.

Nah, it looks like lots of websites have made the error and we on here have copied the error, but Barnsley isn't one of them it seems, as they've announced him as 22 on the official website. Okay, lets have a whip round and send Conan Troutman to the tribunal meeting, because once they've heard his evidence of how useless the lad is the tribunal will have Cowdenbeath owing us money!

    Now that IS funny.

I'm afraid Cowdenbeath will never be at the same level as little old Barnsley unless we found ourselves playing non league football, mainly down to the fact you'll never be out of the Scottish leagues. I see a lot of Scottish football due to living up here, mostly SPL and Championship, the latter being nowhere near League 2 standard at best.

Wonder if Everton thought signing a young lad, who had hardly played any games, although Young Player of the year, from the bottom end of the Championship was a good signing? Wonder if they expected him to be ready made for the step up, the finished article? or wonder if they saw the potential and invested in his development? I think this signing is exactly the type we should be looking for. Young, proven at the level they play, potential still to be unlocked and the investment cost is minimal. The only criticism is the length of contract. If he turns out to be a good L1 and maybe Championship player he wont be here long with little return in terms of money.

You have missed my point. I'm not saying the overall standard is as good but there are players that can play at a higher level. Stefan scougall to Sheffield for example and I believe that having seen kane hemmings for a season, he is a cut above the level he has been playing at. Time will tell tho.
