Lets face it the squad over the past has lacked quality and been flooded with to many average, below par and pllayers with potential who never fullfilled it... And I can't say I'm to dissapointed with current crop of players rejecting contract offers and moving on... If they don't want to play for this club let em go! I ask myself will we really miss them? No, and could we do better for our money? most definately yes! Danny's scouting network have always been able to unearth a few gems. The clear out will have substantially cut the wage bill and this presents DW with an opportunity... We all said clear out needed this summer... Danny sides have always had a good mix of youth and experience... from what I have seen we have some good academy lads coming through. I have just had a glance at the squad (below) and not as bad a I had anticipated with so many players departing. If DW believes our youth can step up to cover, he can invest wages in 3-4 quality players rather than 6-7 average (squad) players. Something I feel previous managers were guillty of! Current squad: GK - Luke Steele, Adam Davies, Christian Dibble DF - Martin Cranie, Jean-Yves M'voto, Lewin Nyatanga, Tom Kennedy, James Bree, George Smith, Jack Cowgill MF - Dale Jennings, Reuben Noble-Lazarus, Paul Digby, Dominic McHale, Darren McKnight, Brad Abbott FC - Chris O'Grady, Kane Hemmings, Danny Rose, Rhys Oates, Nana Boakye-Yiadom, George Maris My view: GK's - 3 talented keepers to match any in the league. DF - decent back 4 for L1, but limited cover. Looking forward to seeing James Bree if he can play to potential. MF - Jennings could be devestating at L1 level. Time for Digger & RNL step up and hold down first team place. Heard good things about McHale, exciting prospect. FC - COG & Hemmings both big physical strikers and could thrive in L1. Rose, Oates, Nana and Maris all have potential to step up and score goals. Signings: The priority should be to retain what we have and add central midfield (x2), a winger and a fullback. suggestions: Conor Hourihane, Michele Leigerwood, Keith Treacy, James O'Connor
Looks like one of your x2 midfielders could be a return for Brian Howard. But I think if we keep what we have now and add 3 or 4 more faces we will do well next year with a mix of youth and experience....
I think he's been stealing a living since he left us, and I'd stay well clear of him if it was up to me unless we pay him a small salary per week not much more then minimum wage with a considerable bonus per start and win bonus along with goal payments but he'd be on no more then a factory worker basic
If he can get him fit and get a run of games I think he will do a decent job in the centre of the park for us.
There's so much to enjoy on Brian Howard's Wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Howard_(footballer) I don't know which I prefer, his full name or his profile picture.
I'm like the OP - optimistic. And like others, I don't see the reasoning behind a Howard return. I'm not against him/it, I just don't understand why it's even a possibility. But as the saying goes, 'Danny Knows'. Hope so.
The days when Cryne used to give comments to the media... http://www.thestar.co.uk/sport/football/barnsley/163-10m-howard-is-far-better-than-tonge-1-242574
The challenge is going to be able to keep Cranie, Jennings, Steele and O'Grady. They're the base for a fantastic side. With a few new additions and a couple of the young lads thrown in, I'll be excited to see what happens next season. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
