Just thinking who we might go for if Mellis walks.... An though of this lad http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franck_Moussa absolutaly played us off the park in the FA cup. Just a thought!
Definitely a good call, Moussa. Midfielder who scores and makes goals. Danny seems resolute about Hourihane, so I hope he gets him. We ought to be able to stump up enough to bring him in, for sure. He must have had Hourihane watched, which is a good sign and he must know how he wants to play him. I hope he is as clear about any other signings as well. Could be good for us next season, if Danny gets the sort of players he is after. He built that promotion team very well and I can't think of many other managers we have had over the years who had the idea of scouting, tracking and then bringing in the right players in order t construct a team. He just needs backing from the board and, let's be honest, the players we are talking about are not going to be mega-bucks.
We can't afford Stephen Dawson yet you think we'll attract Moussa? No chance! Good player though, would love him at Oakwell.
This is the point. It's my opinion that the likes of Digby, Abbott, McHale, Bree etc can't be any worse than bloody Dawson and they're costing us next to nowt so we may as well give them the chance. If they're worse than Dawson (is that possible?) fair enough, but we've spent nowt. If they're better, we're ok. If they're great, then we're quids in. It's not everyones ideal scenario, those who want the likes of Moussa and other failed laikers on decent money, but we're Barnsley FC and becoming a smaller club with every passing season in this greedy basterd sport known as football.
You appear to be confusing what we are willing to offer with what we can afford. It's happening a lot. Managers with the experience of Danny Wilson, CEOs with the football experience of Ben Mansford, and club owners with the business experience of Patrick Cryne do not offer players of the calibre of Stephen Dawson a contract that is at the limit of what the football club can afford. They offer a contract equal to what they believe the player is worth. If, as appears to be the case, Stepehen Dawson rejects that contract, the club will find another player for that position who is willing to accept what we believe he is worth. That player may turn out to be much better than Stephen Dawson. That doesn't necessarily mean we can afford Moussa, but it doesn't mean we can't either and we have had no evidence at all that we can't afford Stephen Dawson, just that we are not prepared to negotiate with him and offer him what he wants.
Word. We offer each player terms that we believe are suitable for that individual player. I'm pretty sure our offer to Hemmings will be less than what we'd be likely to offer Hourihane for example. I was staggered to find out we'd offered Dawson a contract full stop, but two years?! And good luck to him if he thinks he can get two years on better money at a club who won't find him out after a few games. Weren't Birmingham the ones rumoured? They've released Howard who we are trying to bring back. I'm not convinced about that particular lad returning, but I'd have him over Dawson every bloody day.
Mansford said if Hemmings does what he's been fetch to the club for he will earn a lot of money. Also we've bid 6 figure fees for 2 players so far.
Yes, it's a small wage but bumped up by bonuses/incentives. I think every contract should be like that. Paid on performance.
Yup, Mansford made it sound like he was on a performance based contract with lots of bonuses. Seems sensible to me. We take a gamble on a player from a lower league but only pay him well if he produces the goods. Hopefully it pays off for both the club and the player.
It's not that we can't afford Dawson. We will not pay Championship wages in League One. The players who were not good enough to keep us in the Championship are being offered what they are worth. Dawson isn't Championship quality so why carry on bleating about players who are not up to the task refusing to take a cut in wages. If they can find better payers in League One than us then good luck to them. They are in for a big surprise. The average wage in League One is only 36% of Championship wages according to PFA figures.
The vast bulk of our budget is already taken by players on decent Championship wages due to the big contracts dished out last summer. Unless they move on, I imagine the likes of O'Brien and Dawson will be the best we can hope for. Although they've turned us down so who knows what's to come. But Mansford told us to expect between 15-20 signings so I expect a busy few weeks.
Ben said the other day..that if Hemmings starts games and scores goals, he will be a very well paid young man.......insentive ED sorry dint see BMW said the same point..
Not what Doug says in The Chron... http://www.barnsley-chronicle.co.uk...x-skipper-howard-in-talks-over-oakwell-return
Thought him and Danny had said a first team squad of around 18/20 players....With the new goalie and Kane thats about 11. until 1 or 2 maybe leave, So id say about half the number you've put would be realistic.
................'Just thinking who we might go for if Mellis walks'................ Please don't.............me and you know nowt...........we have people employed at the club that actually know something about football
