I for one don't think the English players should be paid a wage, not just this squad but any future squad. It should be an honour and a privilege to be picked for the national team. There are a great deal of players that would jump at the chance to play for their national side, and I think they would commit themselves more that these over-rated prima donnas. I watched a documentary about Ian Wright, the Arsenal striker a few years ago. He could not believe the amount he was going to get paid to play for England, he gave all his appearance money to charity, these are the kind of players we need in the national team, someone that takes pride and wants to play, not someone that just thinks its a holiday. Some may not agree with my thoughts, this is my rant and I am a proud Englishman and cannot abide to see my country being a laughing stock on a global scale. Dave.
I don't think they should get paid. They are still being paid by their clubs over the summer so they really don't need to be paid twice. They're also staying in luxury accommodation and having all their expenses paid.
half of the wan.kers would refuse to turn up if they didn't get paid which would benefit us all ways......so don't pay em I agree. fekking useless bunch..... but no doubt their hangers on will be telling em how well they did and that they were unlucky. clowns
Well I disagree. Players should be paid. Why should they do it for nothing when all of the squad have been brought up in the Post-Thatcher era of greed. Terry Butcher told me that when he played for England he was always out of pocket. I don't think the Royal Family should be paid. They the Queen is the richest woman in the world and does nothing except wave and have long holidays. As for the rest of them the French had the best idea of ridding themselves of free loaders.
Butcher played pre-PL era, different world now. They are pampered to the extreme, don't have to pay for anything, they are millionaires who are already being paid by their clubs, and they gain the commercial benefits of being an England player. Should they **** be paid for it, just selected. I think they do donate their fees to charity though. Wasn't it Terry who got it started when he was skipper?
What about, giving the earnings to charities like grass roots football. That way the money goes back to the sport!
I don't want to get into (another) debate about the Queen, but if you really do believe that then you are an idiot.
I've just looked through the top 200 richest women list on Forbes and she doesn't feature. #200 has $742M dollars, they estimate that the Queen has around $500M.
They should represent their country for the honour of it and nothing else, they shouldn't be paid a penny. If they would rather not bother then that is their choice. The comparison between footballers and the royal family is about as flawed as its possible to be, there is simply no comparison. This isn't personal but there is no wonder the game has been ruined by money when there are fans that don't see anything wrong with the remuneration at the top of the game.
I'm not saying she's poor. I'm discrediting Manlito's ridiculous claim (amongst other things) that she is the richest woman in the world.
What about the Premier League giving more to grass roots football. The rot with the England team set in with the inception of the PL. The squad Roy Hodgson took to Brazil had just two players from the 2013/14 Premier League Champions.
