I have just got back from London and I can see why there are so many accidents. They don't obey any rules. Red lights don't exist.

The one thats my particuar favourite is the adoption of the old french idea that if you are turning left onto a road you have a right of way,( obviously in france it was turning from the right but the principle is the same ) I've had a few hard braking moments when cyclists have just approached the road from the left and gone round the corner imagining that if they keep to the left then thats fine. That and cycling without lights in non reflective clothing when its dark - not so much of a problem this time of year though

Totally agree that's out of order , but 2 cyclist riding side by side on the road is just asking for trouble.

It is legal to ride 2 a breast. Probably safer than being forced the ride in the gutter when car drivers don't allow room when overtaking. They're actually allowed to position as do motorbikes in the centre of the lane.

Guy at works just had his hip and pelvis smashed whilst cycling around Leeds. He was forced into a raised curb by a passing car (not allowing room overtaking).

Sorry, you're completely wrong. Not only is it perfectly legal to ride two abreast, it's significantly safer for the cyclist. The idiots in this equation are the arrogant, impatient motorists, who have little to no idea about cycle safety. Cyclists don't kill cyclists. Motorists do.

Wrong, mate. And after seeing some of the **** some drivers do trying to get round cyclists recently I'll be forever on their side.

I never have any problems with cyclists to be honest. I hear people often moaning about them but I do a lot of driving & never come close to a collision, maybe it's because I do a lot of cycling myself so understand what they're going to do but don't think there a problem.

The only issue I've ever had is with kids on bikes on side streets but you tend to be going slow anyway so there's plenty of time to react.

I've only ever been nearly hit once, some arsehole in Horbury nearly knocked me off but that's once from a lot of cycling.

On busy main roads I prefer to ride one by one, on country roads I do tend to ride side by side but if a cars coming you can easily move back in

Anyone who takes up cycling, will tell you how it's made them think very differently when driving. Bike awareness should be added to the driving test. No question

Agreed, there's some proper bell ends in cars about. I've had a few beep their horns at me when coming up behind me, jumped out of my skin and god knows how I didn't fall off on a few occasions.

I totally disagree but its all about opinions.

how many cyclists stop at red lights when using the road.

Many of times i see them approaching to a red light then jump on the pavement to save waiting

Drivers are not innocent in all of this and some drivers do make we wonder how they passed there test

    Re: Agree entirely

Cyclists are a menace? Why? because if they bump into your car you might get a scratch you have to T Cut out?

Whereas if you nudge a cyclist in a car its going to be a hell of a lot more serious for them. Cyclists take all kinds of **** out on the road and it's drivers who kill cyclists, not cyclists themselves. When I'm out on the bike I'm concerned mostly for my own safety and I don't give a **** if I annoy someone in a car. There's a big hill near me with a cycle lane, but the cycle lane is full of potholes which I don't fancy hitting at 30mph+ so I use the middle of the road. Most times I do there'll be a car right up my arse honking at me.

I had someone lob a carton of chips at me out of a moving car, thankfully it just missed. They also shouted "Wiggins ****er" as they did it which, if it wasn't for the chips, would have been quite funny.

    In my experience

the type of cyclist that wears the full gear, by that I mean the branded cycle lycra like some kind of Bradley Wiggins doll, is an arrogant cu.n,t, thinks they own the road, has a massive chip on their shoulder about cars coming too close, often as the original post states rides two a breast with their similarly stupid f.kng mates talking about this and that, causing motorists to swerve round them and god forbid you signal to them that they are in the wrong, instant w@.nkr sign from them is what you get.

So, not all cyclists, just the Tour De France fkng wannabes. No sympathy if they wipe out cos I've booted it past them, just that.

theres a time and a place to ride side by side, doing it on country roads around blind bends is asking for trouble.i ride both cycles and motorbikes and think long and hard where I put myself when on the push bike,no point saying its legal to ride two abreast when a car doing 40 has just shunted you because you were doing about 6 or 7 mph.
Grimey bypass is one of the worst places with cyclists, every week they are racing on there,up to 6 abreast, its asking for trouble.Theres a tarmac path runs along side it designed for push bikes but they still have to put themselves in danger because they have the right to do so.

It's not all about opinions, it's about the laws and rules of the road. If it was all about opinions our roads would be chaos. We have laws and rules to prevent this. One of those is that cyclists can ride two abreast and the reason for that is it's often safer to do so.
