Squad still a bit light, and I wouldn't want to see any more departures once the players report back. I was hoping our starting XI for Crawley would be in place by now, but seems unlikely.
I think the starting 11 v Crawley, and the one you get 4 or 5 weeks later may be very diffrent. Expect this players name to come up alot over the next few weeks...A Trialist.
Retaining the likes of O'Grady, Steele, Cranie and Jennings gives real hope for next season, almost feels like we've made some quality signings.
Be nice if we could hang onto the quality from last season. Despite the poor results there ARE some very good players in that squad. Good if we can go to some of these third division places with at least half a championship level team on display. Give the home fans a bit of excitement in their otherwise drab lives . Let them know that a BIG club is in town
Steele New Right Back Cranie Mvoto New Left Back (No 1 Priority) RNL Hourihane Digby Jennings O'Grady Hemmings Not too far off a decent team at this level if they play as they can, stay uninjured and we get a couple of full backs.
Very few, if any, clubs now complete their squad re-building prior to the beginning of pre season training or the start of the new season, due to the timing of the transfer window. When the window doesn't close until 31st August, as the deadline approaches clubs, players & their representatives begin to reduce their demands in order to push through moves. Patience is the key if you're wanting to bring in your preferred targets for the right price, as opposed to simply bringing in players for the sake of it.
T'will be interesting to see how many games Digby and RNL play... Ruben never played more than 3 games on the spin under 5 diffrent managers...And diggers, did he play just once under Danny at Doncaster? So ..1 can they both stay fit, which both seem to struggle, and 2 we know they can both play a bit, but can they do it cosistantly...we shall see.
Seeing our most promising youngsters get more game time - and potentially excel - is one of the things I'm most looking forward to this season. It will be very disappointing if they fail to make the grade, or are kept out by league One journeymen plodders we bring in.
I agree with regards to the youngsters. As for any players being brought into the club, I'll judge them on their performances for us. It doesn't bother me where they come from, or who they've played for.
what, young kevin have you been told about talking sense on here........................ pack it in young fella my lad, or its slapped legs and bed with no tea
Starting X1 for a game in August - on the 30th June....???? There will be many comings and goings during July & August - as there always is.
Nah then Trev, if you're going to slap my legs, could you ensure you're wearing black stockings & suspenders too, please? Also, can you think of anyone brave, or stupid, enough to try and stop me from getting to my food??
Contracts end tomorrow too so loads of footballers are suddenly not on the payroll anywhere, gets them moving on signing a new one. When do we head to Italy? Be nice to have some more in before we go there, great chance for them to bond.
