Because he was injured for a good part of the season and sometimes his performances were the only ray of hope I saw. As I say, more than happy to see the rest go - I just like Jim, and I thought he'd have been worth another injury-free year in a better team.
Nearly choked on my cornflakes. A poor mans Brendan O'Connell. Great bloke very average player. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Ben Mansford said Jim and his agent were in touch with the club all summer. He said we offered a contract but weren't prepared to negotiate. He said Jim and his agent acted professionally and courteously throughout, but eventually had to turn down the deal because they thought they could get better. Do I know all that is true? No, but I know our CEO said it and I'm not about to accuse him of lying. Ben certainly seemed to like Jim, I like Jim, a lot as it happens, but he's not so good a footballer that you break the bank to keep him.
Danny`s hands are tied by the fact we have players still on Championship wages, so he offers the players he would like to retain the best deal the club can afford, obviously it aint enough to keep em. Until we off load some of our top earners we will still get beaten to most of Danny`s targets. O`Grady we get offer £500,000? club cant wait to start counting it cos it will give Danny more chance of getting players higher up his target list. If COG had gone to Charlton maybe Jim or Polish Tommy may have been offered that bit extra that may have kept one or both of em at the club. Who knows.
Ah cheers Jay. I didn't realise that Ben had said that and if that's the case (which i'm sure it is) then I agree
All the best Jim, loved playing for the club and representing the town. Not a world beater but had his moments. Think if we ever want to become an established championship team again, we need to improve on players like Jim. Good, but not great. Will miss the wiggle more than anything
There's a long interview with Ben on audioboo where he talks about Dawson, O'Brien and Cywka, among many other things. Dawson, O'Brien and their agents were in touch with the club straight away. Ben states that he believes the players thought the contract offers were a starting point, but the club then made it clear that was all they would offer. He talks fondly of Dawson and O'Brien, not so much of Cywka. While Dawson and O'Brien kept the club informed about what they were doing and what they wanted, Cywka never made contact. Dawson and O'Brien rejected us. That's well within their rights, they're allowed to look for more money and it doesn't necessarily mean they're greedy. We got fed up of waiting for Cywka and withdrew the contract offer. Next day Cywka said he's rejected the contract, but he didn't, he never said owt, the contract was withdrawn. All according to Ben Mansford of course.
Mud sticks if he yer throw it often enough. Repetitive posts from same posters equals Chinese water torture. Thats the way, on here to make something that aint fact into fact. You should know that by now Dreamy.
Of all the players that have moved on recently this one upsets me the most. Far from the most talented player, but dedicated to the club, the town, and whenever we did manage to put a decent performance together Jim was usually involved in that. I think he definitely had it in him to be a star performer in League One, and the confidence that might have brought could have seen him fulfil the potential he was earmarked to have when we signed him. Attitude, temperament and desire were all there, and I thought he was the kind of player Danny would have loved having around for next season. Not sure if the non negotiable contract offers was a good tactic from the club. Certainly not a sensible way of doing business and I imagine it isn't the norm.
let's be honest - he isn't very good. maybe 7 goals (I remember one being from on the goal line, and one being a shot from 30 yards going out for a throw before it was deflected) and a few assists. not great for 4 seasons really is it? Might have ran round a lot but so did Dawson and no-one liked him much.. He's exactly the kind of player we needed to get rid of.
Good point Jay. Also, because he's gone to Coventry after we released him does not necessarily mean he'll be on more than we offered him. Could be he tried to get a better offer from us and when we didn't he decided to try elsewhere. Then he finds other clubs aren't prepared to go any higher and he then has to take the best on offer. He might even be thinking "*****, I should have stayed at Barnsley"
Not a world beater but if he'd have been available more in the second half of the season I think we'd have stayed up very narrowly...but who wanted to stay up anyway just for another season of the same sh*t
Sad to see Jim go. Decent footballer and will look great in the Coventry team in League 1. I'm sure he'll look a class above this league. Wouldn't surprise me to see him go for a fee from Coventry if playing well in this division. Also need to take into account the 'personality' and enthusiasm he shows both on and off the pitch. He'll be missed by me at least. Good luck Jim!
does it make it untrue, just because you haven't seen it reported anywhere? would you expect the Club to report it?
Not but you are the only person in the world i've heard say it. Not even the local press like Star and Chron have insinuated it.
