Not interested myself, great for Yorkshire and all that, I'm sure, and I wouldn't begrudge anyone who wants to go see it, but it's not for me
that's how it's ignorant. right there. around 2.5million people turned up to watch the first two stages and make yorkshire proud. but in your opinion they're all ****s
We almost settled on the Flouch roundabout, however in the end we headed a little up the road so we were guaranteed a front row seat. Easy drive up through Millhouse Green just after lunch too, and easily parked for a tenner back up the hill behind the Langsett Hub. Fantastic day, spent doing nothing more than waiting in the warm sunshine, alongside my fellow Barnsley/Yorkshire folk, to support an event that has so successfully showed off so much of what Big Lil so typically sagely describes elsewhere as a special county. Only shame is how quickly it goes through after all the build up. Really hope the tremendous success and positivity of the last few days is the catalyst for a more permanent race being held around Yorkshire on an annual basis - something I'd be delighted to support if and when it happens, and I certainly wouldn't call myself a cycling fan.
To be honest, I don't care if it leads on to more permanent cycle races or not. For me it was another instance, like the passing of the Olympic torch a couple of years ago, where a major sporting event passed through our town/county and loads of people turned out, enjoyed themselves and supported the event, showing that our town/county deserve such events. It was a great advert for Yorkshire and makes me very proud. Just a load of blokes riding bikes, maybe, but a load of blokes riding bikes don't usually tend to make me that emotional as they go past me. It doesn't surprise me that the people who come on here who are too cool for school and just want to knock things like this are the same people who always want to knock the club and everybody else. I just wonder what exactly will make them happy and, if they are always so miserable, would love to politely ask them to pi55 off and find somewhere else to pick arguments. Thankfully most of us enjoyed today and will be happy seeing our kids take memories like this forward with them.
"Typically sagely", thank you for that, mate, much appreciated. Although, for some reason, my daughter claims you must be being ironic, as she claims she's never seen that side of me!
There's a proposal to do exactly that. Christian Prudhomme the guy who runs the TDF show is working to put together an annual 3 day event in Yorkshire that will attract world class riders from all disciplines of road cycling (sprints, hills etc). http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2014/jan/09/yorkshire-cycling-race-legacy-british-tour-de-france-success On a not unrelated theme did anyone see the flag with Barnsley FC on it? It looked to be somewhere on the tops above the Flouch.
You, sir, are welcome, no irony whatsoever, though I must concede that Laura has quite a bit more evidence on which to base her opinion than I do
My souvenir of the day... ...following a rather spectacular crash coming down the track from Far Coates Farm between Oxspring and Silkstone. Still a great day out though, especially flying past the Dog and Partridge at 44 mph on knobblies once the race had passed. Well done to everyone who turned out - made me proud to be Yorkshire today.
Re: My souvenir of the day... I've got one of those from a very unspectacular fall on the floor, trying to set off on my bike..... doh!
Spent a great day at Leyburn yesterday, great carnival atmosphere, drank a lot of beer , hog roast and had a good laugh with pleasant company, as well as seeing a unique sporting event . Top day out
Re: My souvenir of the day... Some overtook me Talking to one bloke near The Flouch who said he clocked 51 mph.
The Tour of Yorkshire is apparently already in the making and they are trying to get ratified by the relevant bodies and hope for make it the biggest bike race in the UK.
