In Ben Mansford's last interview he clearly stated that he needed a definitive answer from Chris O'Grady. If he wanted to stay, great, Chris would lead the line for us in what will hopefully be a successful League 1 campaign. If he wanted to leave, Barnsley FC needed to know sooner rather than later. They would not be left in the position where Chris is sold at the end of August leaving us high and dry, unable to get in a replacement. Chris has obviously given Ben his answer and he wants to go, so we're open to offers, just like we were told would happen. It appears Martin Cranie is of the same mindset.

Get angry about that all you want, but that's the situation. We either hold two players to their contracts, players who don't want to be here, and allow them to leave next summer for nowt, or we sell 'em now and use the money to get in players who do want to be here. Not only will their sales generate funds, it'll free up a hell of a lot of our wage budget.

I like O'Grady and Cranie. I wish they were staying, I think they're very good players. But if they want to play at a higher level, I can understand that. If they sign for another club in this division I'll be less understanding, but I can't imagine there are many clubs at this level that can match what either player is on at Barnsley.

Tom Kennedy? He's probably just surplus to requirements isn't he? I think we'd love to free up his wage, although I can't imagine there are any clubs out there willing to match it.

He spoke to one of their top guys didn't he and he said they wouldn't be able to afford him.
Things might have changed at BL.

To get O'Grady it'll cost 800K plus in wages transfer fees and other bits

Alan Biggs will be braying his helmet on the desk - he really wants COG to go to Sheff Utd

It's a mess, there's no escaping the fact. Finacially we're in a bad way until we get rid of the top earners. Hence the lack of signings.
The season starts in four weeks and unless we get some players in then half a dozen of the starting XI are going to be kids.
Wilson & Mansford have understandably tried to put a positive spin on things but now time is fast running out.

The club is in melt down...fire sale taking place...or what.

message to ben......remember the conversation you had about seeing empty seats ......look no further than your office door ......because decissions made in there are whats got us into this mess in the first place.both on your watch and previous watches....get ready for seeing more empty spaces.....and dont forget to turn off the light....no doubt after youve spun us more lies.....about the state of play......

when are these so called high flyers and out of towners going to realize that we barnsley folk dont take to bull sh1ting spin.
just tell the truth as hard as it is and be open about things that are really taking place ....

    Spot on Jay.
I'd be quite disappointed if they went, but it's not the end of the world.
And it's done for the right reasons. It's certainly not a fire sale,as is suggested.

It's cashing in on high earners, who could be stopping us getting our targets in.

Don't understand why everyone's getting out if their pram over this. We've had an offer for O'Grady already which we must have accepted if he was allowed to discuss terms with Charlton. There's been rumors linking Cranie away already and maybe the club has realised that Kennedy is not worth the wage we're paying him.

I'd be more inclined to look at the fact that Jennings and Steele aren't on that list which is very positive news. Or does that make me a happy clapper?

It only says that we will 'listen to offers.' That does not mean we have to accept them, as all three are under contract. However, the Cranie situation makes me think that there may be truth in the Peter Clarke rumour as replacement and possibly captain; the Crainie (Blackpool) rumour. The one I don't think we can afford to let go is O'Grady. I can't think of a suitable replacement, unless Danny has someone in mind already, which probably he does.

I hope we don't end up losing the three before we agree replacements. There are rumours about two, but not about someone in for O'Grady. I suppose that, if we don't get decent offers, then Cranie and Kennedy at least will be placed in the frame of mind of knowing that they will have to scrap it out of League One with us. Hope it ends up as a 'win-win,' but we will see.

Worst case scenario is COG to Blunts and no replacement for the start of the season.

I think he must know the general opinion of him and his cronies at Radio DeeDah, and that's held by a huge amount of Barnsley fans too.
