Never mind, Team Sky will be able to win some sprint stages. Hang on, no, they haven't taken a sprinter. Anyone in contention for the green jersey? No. The polka dot jersey? Not really. But they'll get a good result in the time trials, right? No, not now Froome is out. A second option for GC? Well, there's Richie Porte, who's 29 and he once won Paris-Nice. What else has he won? Er, that's it pretty much. So, no then? No.

A leader and a team of domestiques. Brailsford has turned the sport on its head, particularly in this country, but that just seems barmy to me.

If only we could think of someone who might do well that Sky could have called upon as a backup option to Froome.

I wouldn't call something that's already been shown a spoiler. A spoiler is more when something is recorded in advance but not been seen on TV yet.

As for Froome him not being able to win the TDF this year has blown wide open the overseas sports personality of the year award.

I think they should ride in support of Thomas. Given the right support he could do as well as Porte and has been British, world and Olympic champion :)

It is even more barmy when you think its only 3 years since the team was built around Wiggins and he crashed out in the first week too.

It's a spoiler if you're at work and want to watch the highlights! My fault for coming on the BBS and seeing the thread title when I'm supposed to be working, but I wouldn't have opened it if it was just 'Chris Froome' or something similar - the title told me what had happened

Actually, looking back through the last few years, taking G could have been a bit of a bad move. I don't think hes ever ridden in a team that finished with a rider in the top 20 at the end of the race....

Thought Thomas rode a good race in support of Porte today.

Eh? Wasn't he in Froome's winning team last year, seem to remember him riding with a broken pelvic or something, absolute hero.

Nieve could challenge for the KOTM and should well on GC.

Devastated to gear the news about Froome though.

I'll be supporting Pierre Rolland from here.

Thought Froome would win but fancied Nibali for a podium, he now has a chance to win it, even time- trial is up and down in his favour.

Still good chance for a few teams to be more aggressive now.

After a bad day for Contador I would say it's Nibali's to lose.

Long way to go yet, definately deserves his lead after attacking the cobbles today once he knew Froome had abandonned and Contador was off the back of the peleton.

Great stage and great viewing today.

Bardet seems to have replaced Pierre Rolland as the great white hope.

Whst do you think to Rui Costa's chances?

Costa has still got a chance at the podium, but he always seems to have at least one really bad day in the stage races.
