.........this according to the Chronicle today

Surely this is undermining the ability of a player that is engaged in a relegation fight.

AND.......isn't approaching players directly like this against football league rules?

You mean football clubs break the rules?

    Whatever next?

Players can be approached towards the end of their contract as far as I'm aware.

As he was in the last 6 months of his contract he was eentitled to speak to other clubs. Maybe didn't help his mindset in avoiding relegation though.

He missed most of the run in through injury. Doubt speaking to another club made that much difference. Besides, if we'd stayed up I think he would have stayed at Barnsley.

For this to happen, the player in question has to actually, you know, have ability...

I think what Nudger means is, by the end of the season Jim O'Brien will be Coventry manager.

Think he was entitled to speak to other clubs after Christmas

Jim rushed back from injury to try & help us stay up so it definitely didn't have a negative impact on his contribution towards our relegation battle

Coventry were never ever going to pass is as we went down so any conversation is both legal and wouldn't put into question O'Brien efforts

On this occasion they are correct because they were quoting what JOB said on the official Coventry site.

Just clear up that I don't think he ever gave anything other than his best.

He always gave his best but to be fair it was rarely good enough, a lot of effort but no quality is how I will remember him.

I think that's extremely unfair. I've got a bit of a soft spot for O'Brien, I'll admit it, but that's because I like to see a player that's prepared to work their socks off for a cause and he certainly falls into that category. I'd much rather part with my hard-earned to watch O'Brien give his all than some of the game's "more talented" players waste what ability they have in the pursuit of an easy life and a nice retirement nest-egg. I wish O'Brien all the best and I hope he gets a chance to shine at Coventry - he deserves it.

Rather him than Polish Tom, Ping Pong, Brek Sweat, Dawson, Arismendi, Fox, Park and many many other midfielders we've had in say the past decade play for us in one way or another.
