    Stayed in May

great hotel if you're going to get on it, the pool party (Wet Republic) and nightclub (Hakkasan) attract the young crowd from around the US that go to Vegas to get smashed, rooms are fine, large beds hit and miss with view, expect to walk miles to them as the hotel is huge, watch out for the resort tax they try to slap you with ($26 per day) but if you're intending to spend time in your room, in Vegas, wtf?

hi S.M cheers for message, we wont be spending hardly anytime in the room, just wanted to make sure they weren't as bad as some of the reviews ive read.

the resort fee is paid for as part of the holiday package as that's first thing I asked.

    cheers pal

I stayed at the monte carlo earlier in the year and would recommend that. It's across the road from the MGM... a big road at that!

The MGM is in a good spot, went in for a drink, it is massive! New York New York also looked really good and was good on a night for entertainment in the times square bar and the irish bar.

I doubt you can get a bad hotel in Vegas from what I saw to tell you the truth.

When we went to book our holiday last year we looked at MGM grand and it was £200 more each than monte carlo. We were going to book this as we had never been and had heard of this hotel. Our travel agent advised not to as it is literally just a room to sleep in, and the money would be best saved for spending over there. Unless you are booking something specific for a reason and want an amazing room then her advice was spot on.

We only ate in our hotel once. Then just ate and drank at lots of other hotels. The main thing is getting a hotel in a good central spot because there is a lot of walking from hotel to hotel.

I've stayed at the MGM signature which is round the back. All suite roooms, very nice. Often get deals on them as they are a bit of a walk from the back of MGM to the strip.

MGM standard rooms will be decent though. Bad hotel reviews on the strip in Vegas and bad hotel rooms in the UK are totally different.

I stayed at Hooters Hotel (twice actually) which is opposite MGM just off the strip. Small Hotel by Vegas standards and last time it cost $14 a night. Rooms were still great by UK standards and the view in the casino was quite nice also. (not that we spent much time in there).

What are your other options? Have been to Las Vegas too many times :)

What sort of prices are you being quoted?

Just looked for this August and you can get a suite at the Tuscanny for £27 a night. It's just off strip, a **** stride from the MGM. Both have a certificate of excellence for 2014 from Trip Advisor, MGM has 81% thumbs up, Tuscanny has 80%.

There are thousands and thousands of rooms in Las Vegas. It's never, ever full, but rates do creep up if there are a number of conventions on. Depending on the price, I'd think twice about booking a year in advance. If you've got a good deal, great, go for it, if not, you've got a year to keep your eye on the prices and can book at any time during that period when something crops up. You could join some sites and ask for updates on Las Vegas deals.

If you do stay at the MGM, don't pick the big perspex room in the lobby. It's full of lions.

When we went to Vegas last year the MGM was having a huge facelift. The pics of the rooms you saw may well be out of date. We stayed at Bellagio a fantastic hotel.

My brother stayed at the MGM and said that the bedrooms were a bit tired. However, it has been renovated since then and is supposed to be much better. I visited the hotel (not the rooms) in April and it looked pretty smart.

I stayed at the Bellagio which was very nice, but if I were to go again the Monte Carlo looked good and is perfectly located in the middle of the strip.

That doesn't sound too bad. Just quickly tried the same 2 week holiday for this August, return flights from Gatwick, 2 weeks at the MGM Grand and it came in at £2800 using Skyscanner and Trivago. With some searching I could get it cheaper, but not an enormous saving. And I'm sure I'd be hit for some extras in that. Using the same sites it was £2600 at New York New York. Same at Monte Carlo. £2450 at the Desert Rose and Bally's. £2150 at the Tuscany that I mentioned earlier.

Flights outside the school holidays are anything up to £200 cheaper than what you'll pay in August. So that may be something to consider unless you're out there for a specific date like an anniversary or a birthday. The temperatures in spring and autumn can be far more bearable too, although still hot.

Summat to think about anyway. You're not getting conned, far from it, but if you were prepared to do it yourself I reckon you could save yourself a grand. However, money isn't always the primary concern. Many people like the peace of mind that comes from having travel agents and tour operators sort things out and that can certainly cut out on some of the hassle. Just thought I'd give you another option to look in to, but it's not for everyone.

I'm sure you'll have a great time. There really is summat for everyone. Not everyone who goes wants to go back, but everyone I've ever spoken to was glad they'd been.

You can always try the $20 Room Upgrade trick. Did it a few years back at Treasure Island and got upgraded from standard to Strip View.

When checking in, slip the clerk a $20 bill between your passports and say that it's your first time in Vegas and wondered if there are any 'complimentary' room upgrades available.

I've also stayed in the Signature @ MGM in a suite, and ended up paying less for that than what it would have cost for a standard room in the MGM/Bellagio/Caesars.

Like others have said, the MGM is massive. It took the best part of 20 minutes to walk from the Signature, through the MGM and out onto the strip.

The only thing i'd recommend is booking it separately. You can get direct flights with Thomas Cook from Manchester (i found this the cheapest way as didn't want to stop and change) and then wait until the hotels offer deals or look through the comparison sites for the best rate. It'll work out loads cheaper and give you more cash for while you are there. You'll need it! The airport is 5 minutes away from the strip and there are thousands of taxi's to get you to the hotel you book.

I went for a week and didn't see/do everything i wanted to. Hoping to get back there.

    cheers for info jay

its for our honeymoon, I went to vegas last September stayed in the mirage and loved it and managed to talk our lass round into going again for our honeymoon.

I hate flying with a passion that's reason we've are booking it with virgin flights as didn't want to fly in economy with Thomas cook, were getting married 25th july next year so that's reason were looking at august, they did quote us for the week after our wedding but that was £400 more

I'd go for one of your first 3 options personally, all in good locations... although I don't know where desert rose is.

Ballys had a lot of construction works starting outside it when I went in March. It disturbed the walkways around the hotel making it longer to walk to etc.
