Depends. With long serving players, they are sometimes let go even without bothering about a fee. Not sure why, but it does happen.

Someone on here yesterday said they are in real trouble. Don't spend any money on players and have a total budget of 6M euro. They had a lot of debt apparently from what I read before the Financial crisis and had to pay it all back as the banks haven't got any money themselves and have had to take emergency loans from European central bank
