How's Donny getting round it, they've released two players l think but kept the bulk of their squad and more than likely had a similar wage bill with slightly lower turnover. Terry and Dick were no longer putting the amounts they used to put in. Is this a case of Barnsley stripping down more than they have to and asking the manager to try and work on a less than competitive budget but still sack him when we do *****?
To be honest GO, I'm starting to think along those lines. Not so much the cost cutting, but Danny stripping down the squad and starting again. If you look at the players we've reportedly bid for, they're all going to cost a fair bit of money and are all decent. Maybe Danny wants to build his own squad and the board are backing him?
I'd take some short term pain for that. imho pretty much the entire 1st team squad of the past few seasons are battle weary from successive relegation battles, have the 'survival first' mindset and need new challenges elsewhere. Wilson needs a new more positive attitude running through the club. Or I'm a deluded happy clapping fcknut
Got to say I agree. We've been going season after season doing the same thing. Piecing together somwhat of a squad with loan players, survive near the end of the season then things go wrong the next season and they're sacked. Something needed to change, and this is the change.
They've lost Tamas, Cotterill, Meite, Paynter, Sharp (loan), Brown, Quinn and Duffy. That's the bulk of their squad. They've kept Wellens, Husband and Coppinger so far though. Decent laikers for this level. But with their takeover collapsing, they're not exactly in great shape themselves.
