And suddenly now we're in a league where you can only spend a fixed percentage of turnover (as it should be) we're starting to complain that we're having to abide by it.

Parachute payments ruin the Championship but now we're the ones who've been relegated everyone wants us to keep paying our best players Championship wages. This is the whole point of having financial fair play. Your budget should adjust to the league your in and consequent reduced turnover.

It would have been an interesting experiment, but I don't think we 'd have got right far with a 5-a-side team this year, no matter how good the players were. We needed to move high earners on. We've done that now and the recruitment can begin in earnest.

I've just said the same in another thread. The lack of replies speaks volumes. No-one grasps it.

a level playing field is wanted in all divisions, not just from the third down.I think that's what people were wanting.

Isn't a 5-a-side team exactly what we have?

It's not about SCMP rules it's about preparedness.

We are less prepared for the coming season than any in memory apart from when we were in admin under Gudjon. No one can really be happy with that. Other than Blackpool we probably have the smallest squad in the league in fact with 8 players they may best us.

We find ourselves close to the start of the season probably needing to sign 10/12 players which is a massive task just to get the numbers in key alone players who will add value. Then we have to mould them into a team.

For my part I think a mid table finish would be a great achievement from the position we find ourselves in. Luckily Danny's a good manager so I expect him to achieve this. I don't think we should underestimate how hard it'll be though to stay out of the bottom 6.

In fairness as they're in a different division it makes no odds what happens at Bloomfield Road. I think we'll be reight. PP = Glass half full.

We want a level playing field, as long as that means we do better ;)

I'm sure we'd have rather moved on players earlier. Had O'Grady gone to Charlton I imagine we would have signed several more by now. But we didn't. I suppose we could have released all the big earners for free in June to free up the wages to bring players in, but I suppose we're trying to get the best deals where possible first.

The worst planning for me would have been to waste our (effective) wage cap on a load of dross just to pad out the squad. Now we've freed up the wage budget we can (hopefully!) bring in the quality players Danny wants.

But is it really a level playing field!

I think not. I I gather that if owners give money to the club its not counted in the income. However, it is a step in the right direction

I haven't seen many (if any) posts that complain about the L1 rules. What i have seen is the concern over how ready we are knowing the rules we were to abide by. I know we have to make some cost savings but surely contracts signed by our top earners had get out clauses allowing them to leave as well as safety clauses for us in terms of wage cuts if relegated. This should have enabled some forward planning and hopefully we will see the results of that this week. Whether we have a plan or not is one argument, but the fact is, as of now we simply aren't ready to start a league campaign. The league 1 games start in a few weeks, granted, but the season really started a few weeks ago in terms of building the team and preparing fitness, tactics and combinations.
