We need to sign players. We don't need to sign them by 9th August.

I don't doubt that he does.

I have doubts about those above him.

I'm not really jumping up and down, if you meant me. We'd all like to bounce back straightaway but the club mentality needs changing.

The owner needs to demand more and the test need to deliver more.

It's great to have a long term plan and work towards it and is definitely the right thing for us and it's right to integrate the young players as early as possible. It's not quite so great to be the least prepared club in The league (at least on the surface). I don't believe for a second that this preseason has turned out the way Danny wanted nor would he want to build on a house with no foundations as he's been forced to do.

It's not him I'm concerned about.

I'm not sure what you want.

You want the owner to demand more but them to also have a longer term, sustainable strategy? You can't neccessarily have both.

A season of consolidation awaits IMHO & I'm more than happy with that - won't be easy but it's needed for us to build in the future.

Of course he's fit to demand more. Having little or no expectations has not done us any good.

I'd agree that that is what awaits.

I just hope that that trigger finger doesn't get itchy

It'll get itchy if this place starts getting on it's high horse demanding us signing Michael Tonge and dropping our young lads.

Agree RE demands but there also has to be a bit of realism. I'd be demanding over a 3 year period.

Serious question Liam - in your honest opinion, not based on what you hope will happen, but what will actually be reality - how many of the young lads do you think will make the grade?

He's not at Bury because he's not a Lloyd player.

I've no idea but I'd hope for Digby/Rose & Lazarus to be key squad players for us next year with 2 or 3 of the other lads around too. I've not seen any of 'em laik so couldn't say.

I'm guessing we'll sign at least 5 players by the end of August with loans to come on top of that. I'm not against loans if the players Danny wants are available at the minute. Rather that than get lumped with players he doesn't want.

I'd guess at an XI by end of August:

    New Keeper
    New RB
    BFJ
    Nyatanga
    New LB
    Jennings
    Lazarus
    Hourihane
    Digby
    Hoskins
    Hemmings/Rose

It'll probably be f.ck all like that.

That's the problem. None of us have seen much of these young lads and we've seen even less of them against experienced professionals.

Throwing young lads in at the deep end and hoping they'll do a decent job is not the ideal way to blood them IMO.

If we only get 5 in it'll be a long old season. Chucking the young lads in not because they are ready but because you have no other options seems a recipe for ruining their careers.

No, agree entirely. But folk have talked about giving young lads an opportunity instead of loans/short term contracts. What should we do? Bring in loads of loans? Sign players that are available right now?

Nar - wait until the right ones come up. The exact opposite of what happened last year.

You're right about waiting for the right players. But the season approaches and we can barely field a team. Sone of the young lads are clearly ready in fact for RNL it's make or break. The others you integrate slowly use them sparingly and in the right way. Danny is great at this but can only do it if we have the basis of a team to integrate them into.

I'd say about ten or we'll struggle.
