Just thought I'd mention that. It was Andy Giddings, not Ben Mansford, that actually used the peculiar turn of phrase in question first. Ben just responded in kind. Andy Giddings: "It's a situation where a lot of fans get on to us and say all they can see at the minute is sell. Sell, sell, sell. Ben Mansford: "Yup" Andy Giddings: "What about ins here? I mean I, I take the view and this is my own personal opinion, as soon as one or two players start rolling through the door, then fans might have a collective breathe out here. How, how, how close are Barnsley to doing that? Ben Mansford: "The doors will be rolling in the next seven days." Ben was actually taking the piss out of the way Andy Giddings phrased the question. Either nobody got it or nobody has actually bothered to listen to what Ben had to say. 9 minutes in. https://audioboo.fm/boos/2337014-barnsleyfc-chief-exec-ben-mansford Now even Andy Giddings himself is attempting to rip the piss out of Ben with his latest Tweets. The joke isn't on Ben Mansford, it's on y'all.
Stop trying to spoil our fun. Only fcukin bit of a laugh we've had! ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Patrick Cryne used to get narked because he gets quoted with the phrase "box office signings" that he never actually said either.
To be fair, even this post isn't a true reflection of what was actually said. Where has anyone said 'Revolving Door'? Giddings just said fans will be relieved when 'one or two players start rolling through the door' and asked if that was close to happening. Mansford replied saying 'the doors will be rolling in the next seven days'. Don't see anyone taking the piss out of anybody there? The biggest fool is Giddings though who's started using 'revolving door' on Twitter.
What a set of pedants. Does it really matter whether the doors are rolling or revolving so long as there bloody open and in use?
It's like a gigantic game of Chinese whispers ! However giddiness doesn't actually use the phrase but reads it a hundred times on here so starts using it as he thought he said it .... Or something ***** like that
I listened to the interview and never noticed any reference to Revolving Door. Just seen lots of references to it on here and tykes mad.
You've lost me Loko mate. How can a word for word transcription of the interview not be a true reflection of what was said? What I've posted is exactly what was said. I never said anyone had said revolving door during the interview. I said, "It was Andy Giddings, not Ben Mansford, that actually used the peculiar turn of phrase in question first. Ben just responded in kind." The peculiar phrase in question is "players start rolling through the door". You can certainly question my interpretation, Ben may well have just been repeating Giddings' turn of phrase, but when I do that and when my mates do that, it's because we're mocking that turn of phrase. It's subtle, but it's there. There's a few things going on here. People who like the club and like who is in charge and like how things are going are having a laugh about the revolving door thing. No harm, just a laugh. However, there are those intent on undermining the current regime at its every turn. Ben is being portrayed as a jumped up out of towner who constantly talks ***** and never answers a straight question with a straight answer. This revolving door situation is gold for them. Then there's Radio Sheffield. They've spent the summer constantly talking of Chris O'Grady's transfer to Sheffield United. There's been nowt to suggest for a minute he would go there. Ben Mansford categorically denied it was even a possibility. But they've kept on, and on, and on. The very worst it's done is work some of our fans in to a lather, so they're on the club's back, but did it also unsettle Chris O'Grady? We're telling him that we want him, should he choose to stay, while the local radio station are constantly reporting that we're selling him. How does that help our club and our player? Now that's done and they've turned to mocking our CEO, quoting words from an interview on Twitter that he never said. It makes him look daft and that's the intention. It's out of line and it's well out of line. I'm not being pedantic as was suggested below, I've absolutely no problem with fans having a laugh, but there's more to it than that and it's starting to leave a bitter taste.
When he was in The Courthouse in negotiations with Billy the Fish (to be unveiled as our new keeper later today) I distinctly heard him say "revolving door". And Jeroboam he definitely said that.
I'm not sure I understand this thread. has someone been claiming the Revolving Door was a negative Mansford statement or criticizing him for it? I heard the original interview and always attributed it to the interviewer. Have I missed something? Either way its a fun metaphor and one we should keep spinning (sic). Having said all that many just love to find a comment or quote (true or not) to create some negativity around on here.
You're bang on Jay. When i listened to the interview, my first instinct was that Ben sounded very defensive. Maybe even nervous. Which having got rid of Steele and O'Grady and having just a handful of players over 18, you could understand. But thinking about it more, I wonder if it was actually anger and annoyance. There are a lot of one word answers. A lack of engaging with the interviewer and reframing his questions rather than answering them at length. Ben's purposefully gone out of his way to give very lengthy interviews on Radio Sheffield. Way more than anyone in charge of the Sheffield clubs. He's been courteous, open as much as he can allow and helpful. But RS have been trying to do their usual trick of belittling the club and the "revolving door" was probably a jibe at the ones going out rather than coming in. I don't think he deserves the stick he gets from some of our fans, and i do think RS are responsible for that grief to a large degree.
