Mine, leaving my place, in the crowd, back to the pitch, 89 minutes. Clint Marcelle. Never saw it live, was shitting it.
That cross going straight towards Trevor Aylott, no doubt it was going to be a goal and be the winner for the first true giant killing I'd ever seen us achieve. We've beaten teams much bigger than Man City were then but they still don't mean as much.
A football moment and not BFC related but, my mate took me to THE Carlisle game where Jimmy Glass scored and kept them in the league. Was incredible.
That's mine as well had been watching all the way through the 70's and it was the first taste of success. Missed the kick off as it was a night game and it took much longer to get in watched the game from the corner where the disabled stand is now as the Ponty and Brewery were both full 35 years ago now which is a sobering thought best in the last 10 years Howard's goal at Anfield
Barnard's goal, and the whole "the **** is going on" nature of that game against Huddersfield. Howard's goal at Anfield. Clint's second at Maine Road. Redders on opening day of the Prem season. Danny Haynes leveller at Bumhole Stain. The four and five nil maulings of Brum. Higgy's goal at Wembley. Colgan's save in Cardiff. Huddersfield under Flicker. Boro away last season. Leicester away 1998. Norwich at Oakwell 2002.
Traveling over to Anfield to place a basket of flowers just to the right of the penalty spot, not long after the hillsborough disaster. Even today i can still recall the eerie silence that surrounded the stadium that day, we queued for 3/4s of an hour not one person spoke, . Once in side i Found the whole situation very moving. Very profound, you could almost taste the sorrow let alone the despair. I can honestly say it moved me to tears and i was about 10 days before i got over what id experienced. Besides having a pub at the time , i was also working as a stand up comic, i felt like i didnt want to laugh, it had upset me so much. I even canceled a full weeks work of stand up ......dark days
I'm married with two kids and have no qualms at saying that Clint's goal hitting the back of the net can never be surpassed. Even if, by some quirk of fate, we end up winning the European Cup. It was the culmination, for me, of 20 years of watching the Reds and just desperately hoping for something you could call success. And to me that boiled down to getting to the top flight or winning the Cup. I was bitterly disappointed when we lost to Cardiff, because I really thought that it was destiny, and that I'd been put on the Earth and was brought up a Reds fans because one day we would break the stranglehold of the big four teams and win the Cup, but it wasn't to be. But the moment Clint's shot hit the net I cheered then had to sit down and take a breath, because I knew what it meant. It can never be equalled and I'm not disappointed by that, because for that one moment life was pure 100% joy. And if we're talking moments, rather than periods of more than a minute, football wise, Redders goal against West Ham has to come second. For that one moment we really thought we were on the up and that the fairytale would continue. It ended before the end of the match, but for that moment it was almost as good as Clint's goal. The third moment was undoubtedly Howard's goal at Anfield, purely for the sheer drama. The second best football experience was Huddersfield away a year or so ago, partly for the achievement, partly for the drama, but mainly for the complete coming together of everybody in the ground, after such a dramatic and draining afternoon. The achievement of our club at the end of that season was incredible, so it deserved the fairytale ending. But that afternoon can't really be described as having a 'moment' like the other three did. Thinking about things like this make me wonder what people who aren't daft footy fans would consider their best moment. Surely they can't have experienced what we did when Clint scored or even when Howard scored. I'd love to know how non-footy or sports fans decide on things like this.
clints first goal at west brom ..clints goal at oakwell ..pure joy never be out done .in town after that game what a night
The moment of sheer and unadulterated happiness I felt when Clint scored is quite probably the happiest feeling I've ever experienced football or non football. It was the culmination of something the realisation of a dream and let's face it dreams rarely come true. After years of our town getting systematically destroyed by politicians it felt like new hope and new life. Gave us pride in coming from Barnsley and was a big **** you to the rest of the country. The only otter moments that have felt close football wise was that night of the Grimsby game when the atmosphere felt electric and looking back was the start of the dream that reached fruition 20 years later. The great escape against Huddersfield 2 years ago also cones close for the feeling of unity around the ground and the common sense of enjoyment. There have been other highs like Colgan's penalty saves, Howard's goal at Anfield, the premiership game against Liverpool, the 7-1 against Huddersfield but they pale in comparison to those 3.
I was at that game with my mate who's a Carlisle fan was there when they went down the following year - sure it was kayode who got the goal
Stewart Barrowclough leathering the ball into my face when I was about 10 years old. That's stayed with me.
were you in the west stand Mr C,I can remember a kid getting smaked in the kite once,i'm sure we were stood in the west stand.
