We were constantly being told on here in the second half of the season that Mellis lacked, desire, passion and work rate etc etc. His career was supposedly in rapid decline and he wouldn't get another Championship club. Conversely, we were also told the exact opposite of Dawson, this despite him serving up appalling and inept performances week after week and then insulting the travelling supporters after a humiliating defeat. Interesting that Mellis has now signed up with a Championship club while Dawson is still waiting for that phone call. Which won't be coming from a Championship club. I thought this would happen.
I get the impression that there wasn't much clamour for mellis' signature and suspect signing for Blackpool is pretty much the worst championship offer to take, on the lowest salary.
Mellis is the luckiest footballer in the league to have got another chance at championship level. Dawson certainly deserves a club in my opinion and its worth remembering that we wanted to keep him but I don't think we wanted Mellis. Daws chose to try elsewhere or he'd still be here.
Come on Mario. A Championship club had shown interest in Mellis, given him a trial and offered a contract. Has anyone shown any interest in Dawson? Doubtful. Apparently Dawson was offered a new contract but on reduced terms of 75%. I don't think he so much chose to try his luck elsewhere but felt he had no other option. No surprised he hasn't found anything.
I struggle to see the point of the original post. Both are gone, Dawson makes the best of limited talent, mellis doesn't. God speed to them both
Mellis is now at a basket case club and is very likely to be playing in league one in the not too distant future. Dawson will get another club, or I hope he does because he may not have had the talent of Mellis but he had showed more heart, passion and desire than Mellis could ever dream of showing.
if Blackpool hadn't adopted a policy of signing anyone they can, I can't imagine he'd be playing in the championship. And I think Mellis' career is in relative decline in that he started with Chelsea, has fallen down to a poor championship side, played (extremely) badly for a season and got relegated, and has now been signed on by a team that are a complete joke at the moment. I think they were Dawson was crap too by the way.
I've actually quoted you in another thread. Still not done nearly enough in my opinion but anyone who doesn't praise every move the club makes at present is slated to high heaven. I've sort of been avoiding posting.
Can't recall seeing any myself. We tend to agree on a lot of things Mario but I can't understand how you can have affection for or rate such a truly horrendous footballer. Calling him inept would be a compliment. His shocking inadequacies were a big factor in our relegation as far as I'm concerned.
Maybe my opinion of him is a little distorted by the fact I saw him as the best of a very bad bunch last season. I know I'm in a minority but I really thought he was a better player than Mellis last season.
I thought Daggers, Marlon and Jason Jason were just as pivotal in terms of their goals in that Flicker spell, before it died out a bit towards the end. But Mellis, whether folk like to admit it or not was near enough our most consistent player under both Flicker and Keith, contributing key assists and goals throughout. But folk forget that (his first full season as a pro) and just refer to last season where he wasn't the only one who was garbage in comparison. Not arsed that he's gone, and yes he lacks application and has a somewhat dubious social life, but I enjoyed his two seasons combined more than I did the entire seasons of Dawson, Wiseman and Kennedy combined. Because those three lacked talent and application. Running around giving silly free kicks away and arguing with folk isn't application, in my book. Soz, Daws.
I suppose Mellis has age on his side, wouldn't be surprised if Dawson shacked up there this week with the mess they're in. Aha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
As were all of his teammates barring a handful. But I was referring to the season previous, as you well know.
