Not even been given a squad number with Coventry for this season. It's quite clear they want rid. Any chance of us going back in for him? Hope so. It it's down to personal terms he needs to get real. It's the 3rd division.
Personally I hope that's the end of it with him. He's the type of player that I don't want at the club this season. Wrong age, doesn't have the hunger, certainly doesn't have the burning desire to play for us. No thanks.
Inclinded to agree with this ^^^^ Had he signed initially then great but now he has failed to agree no point us going back for him now
Do we know he couldn't agree terms then or if he had a problem with his medical? I haven't read anything saying we couldn't afford his wages only hear say.....
Good player at this level so I'd still welcome him. Hopefully the offer has been left on the table but with the caveat that it is withdrawn if we sign another target instead.
He declared all deals were off http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/football-news/carl-baker-misses-out-coventry-7533035
I saw that but saying all deals are off doesn't give a reason as to why the deals are off. Basically the lads been slated but how do we know barnsley didn't pull out of the deal and sign that lad from Cambridge instead?
Yes it does. It means his prime factor is finance and not a wish to play for Barnsley. Ergo he has no burning desire to join us. Unless he's given the money that he feels he's deserving of.
Completely disagree. All depends on the persons personality, you can play a O'Brien, Dawson, Perkins etc at any club & they'll always be full of desire, it's in their make up. On the opposite end of the scale the likes of Shea, Mellis & McCourt will tend to be half arsed because they've not got that desire. Money only has a small impact.
The fact that he is 31 has a big bearing on this. Baker knows that this is probably his last decent move and will want to secure the best possible deal for himself. I see nothing wrong with that. He's not like the other players we've signed who are at the beginning of their careers and desperate to make a name for themselves, hence willing to accept relatively low pay deals in the hope of future benefits. Baker is a proven class act at League 1 level and just the type of player we are lacking in my opinion. Really hope the deal can be resurrected but I doubt it.
As the post says above football is his job and all he knows and he can see the end in sight so wants to maximise his earnings potential and you can't knock him for that. Would have been an ideal signing but the budget is the budget so we have to move on.
I agree that he should get the best possible deal for himself, however that doesn't mean that it would be the right move for BFC. Qll the yonger players that we've signed have gone on record stating their desire to play at this level for Barnsley. I just don't believe Baler shares that passion or desire, whch is why I don't want him here. He may sign still, and be brlliant, and if that's the case I'll be chuffed for him and the club.
