@Gids1980: Understand #barnsleyfc are trying to sign striker Leroy Lita. Deal not done yet. It follows the arrival of Keith Treacy last night.

If football was just based purely on ability, it would be a great signing at this level. I just feel he had the opportunity earlier in the year to come when his situation was the same and he turned that down.

I know things change in football within a close period of time and that offer from Ipswich for a pre season trial may have been in the pipeline for a few months but can't help but think that despite his ability, he isn't under the 'hungry' category.

I don't remember seeing gids tweet about us signing Treacy or most of the others come to that!
Hopefully just a speculative tweet... Band enough names about, one might stick

I've just had a text from a mate saying that we're signing Lita.

I'd also be ok with him signing. He's deffo not coming for a last pay packet unless bart 2k a week is a big pay packet for him. He may be coming to play first team football you never know.

If he signs he'll look twice as unhappy as Frimpong whilst having his photo taken with the shirt.

112 goals in 359 games, almost all at Championship level. To be fair, he's quite likely to bang them in for fun at this level. And at 29 he's not exactly past it.

Dunno what to make of Lita. He seems to have been around forever, but he's not 30 until December. He scored 24 league goals in League 1 for Bristol City in 2004-05, which marked him out as a striker with bags of potential and earned him a £million move to Reading, but he hasn't done a great deal since. He's only hit double figures in terms of league goals twice since then, 11 for Reading in 05-06 and 12 for Middlesbrough in 10-11. He did score 7 goals in the Premier League in 06-07, but for a player who is primarily a goal scorer he hasn't exactly been prolific. He averages about 1 in 4, which is OK, but not as productive as you would expect from a player that has been in such high demand throughout his career. He cemented his reputation early on, but I don't think he's lived up to it. I think some of that is down to the choices he's made, there have been a number of stories in the press about his wage demands and maybe he's signed for clubs for the money rather than chosen somewhere that would help him flourish. Because of that, I didn't expect us to be linked with him. He'll no longer be able to command the type of contract he once enjoyed, but from Premier League wages to what we're offering?

Since that season with Bristol City he's played at a higher level, so maybe he'll be able to recapture that goalscoring touch if he is to play back in League 1. Dunno, could be a fantastic signing, he might just be OK, I'm just surprised we can afford him.

It's not quite that good. 31 of those goals were for Bristol City in League 1 and 19 of them were in cup competitions. 62 goals in 235 appearance at Championship/Premier League level.

The guy is proven. Hes had a few dodgy seasons but at 29 his career is far from over.

If the signing comes off lets just back it.

    He'd be a great signing for a L1 club.

So 1 in 4 at Champioship level. Not that prolific, but then we're not playing at that level next season. I'm inclined to agree with you that it could go either way with him - does he still have the desire, and indeed the pace? Overall though, considering the lack of experience in the side I'm not against us signing one or two seasoned players to hold the team together. Personally I'd have liked an experienced centre half as well.
