Absolutely strolled through that game today at a canter. By far the best player on the pitch by a country mile. Hope we can keep him for the season.
In first half he told everyone to leave ball and let it run out only to find there player chase back and put ball across box and Dudgeon made last minute tackle to prevent goal, he is good at playing ball out of defence but like the rest of them he makes mistakes definitely not best player on pitch
Disagree 100%... Rolls Royce on the ball... Played it out of defence like David Luis... And 90% of the time no complaints. But twice he did just that "strolled" left his man who could and should have scored on both occasions... Also like David Luis I say good footballer, but better fullback or def mid Nayatanga was outstanding at the back, defended well, never lost his man, and he even played out of defence looked confident on the ball.., great to see
Except for the goal when our two 'best centre backs in the division ' went missing . Unfortunately you can see that happening all season having said that I can also see us scoring a few goals when Lita Treacy and Jennings get going. Thought new lads did alright at least they looked like they wanted to play which is an improvement on last season
I thought Cranie had a poor game yesterday. And he still can't organise a defence. We were all over the place at the back.
Yes, he was magnificent at getting a header in our box when they scored from the corner wasnt he? Oh, sorry, he didnt, but isnt that what a central defender should do????
So complete mixed view then of Crainie then... At least its not just me who thought he had a poor game defensively yesterday... Lapse in concentration and involved in a couple of defensive mix ups that reminded me of last season... No coicidence that when he didn't play last season goals conceded dried up... Big Jean and Nayatanga are our best pairing at the back IMHO... Crainie played out of defence well to create attacks and break forward to support midfield... IMHO he should be in middle of the park... our midfield general... Big positive yesterday was fullbacks... both confortable in defence and attack... and both put in decent crosses into the box, supported wingers, looked confortable with ball on either foot, and put in a tackle when needed... very impressed, and 1000% better than we have had past few seasons
I don't want to get on Martin's back, but there was a 20 minute spell where he got everything wrong. I really felt for him and was pleased when he upped it second half. I agree that Danny has got him bringing the ball out of defence with more confidence, as a couple have pointed out. And so he should, in this league. But as in the last 2 seasons, we are still a set piece waiting to happen and I'm afraid to say the common denominator here is Martin. I so wish he'd partnered Shackell for a season. Some sense of organisation would have rubbed off and I'm sure he'd be a better Captain for it.
Yet he is lauded as the best defender in this league !! There must be some proper ***** defenders !!!!
The pair of you Victor Meldrews wouldn't know a decent footballer if you tripped over him! Just joking, by the way, opinions & all that!
