After been surprised and disappointed by all the negative comments regarding yesterdays game, i thought i would post my first my first ever match report for all the fellow fans like myself who cant get to most games and rely on this forum for information as to how the reds are doing. On a whole the match was not the best, it was quite obvious both sides were struggling to instantly gel with so many new signings playing competitively for the first time. There was chances for both sides and a draw would have been a fair result. From the Reds prospective, we tried to play a quick passing game and what was pleasing was every time a player got the ball, he looked forward and there were no signs of the negative sideways/backwards passing for previous seasons. We always had midfielders running past the strikers, but just did not quite perform/or see the right pass available to create more chances. The defence looked solid throughout and again always looked to pass from the back, as opposed to playing hoof ball. On the whole it was an encouraging performance with promise of better to come, once the players get to know each other, just a disappointing result. Before the game the majority of fans seemed pleased and optimistic about danny and the news boys and were asking for patience from all fans to allow them to bed in before making instant judgments. So its highly unfair that some have already written off a 46 game season, after just 1 game! We now have what looks like a strong first x1 for league1, a lot will depend on how many of the youngsters can make make the step up once injuries and supsensions kick in. I think if we all show backing and patience then a top 10 finish can be achieved. Davies - 6/10 A calm efficient performance, not much to do really, Made one good save, perhaps could have dealt better with the goal. Doesnt seem to command his box much though. Dudgeon - 6/10 A passing full back, who tried to link up with Jennings when could. Ive never seen Smith play, so cant comment on whether a full season loan would be good or not. Nyatanga - 6/10 Dealt with mot things ok, again tried to pass out of defence Cranie - 7/10 Solid defending throughout and seemed to have developed confidence to come forward more to create attacks Brown - 7/10 Considering he had no support at all down his side, he very rarely seemed trouble either in defence or attack. When attacking its obvious he is a centre half by trade, but looks talented enough to do well at full back. Jennings - 5/10 Always tried to beat his full back, but i can only remember him actually succeeding once. Although to be fair he did then produce a great shot which brought a class save from Jensen. Looses marks also for a lack of professionalism in his sending off, however harsh it was. Everyone knows you should never react like he did and its just asking for trouble. Bailey - 6/10 Seemed to be the more holding of the midfielders, again a passing player though, neat and tidy without been spectacular. Hourihane - 8/10 MOM Everything seemed to go through him the entire game. Always pressing and looking for opportunities either for otheres or himself. A great prospect based on this one game Berry - 6/10 Seemed to be told to play right midfield, but was always coming in to the middle leaving Brown with no-one in front of him, Whether this was tactical or indiscipline only he and Danny will know. Again looked neat and tidy though, a passing player. Winnall - 6/10 Was always anticipating that through ball and looked lively, but looks very much like he is a striker who needs service as opposed to creating his own chances. Rose - 4/10 Sorry but very ineffective. We all know he is too leightweight and doesnt have the pass to render that. Runs around a lot, but i can do that, doesnt make me a good footballer! Treacy - 5/10 Came on into Jennings role, had much about the same impact. Looked well short of match fitness. Nana - 6/10 Looked eager and should have scored right at the death. All in all we had enough chances to draw and even win the game, but its early days. No reason for blind panic, nor optimism. We are 1 game into a 46 game season and no rash judgement should be made either way. I realise that some of the keyboard warriers on here will probably pull this report to pieces, but thats fine everyone is entitled to their opinion. I just thought i would try to give a more indepth reasonable report to read for everyone. Onwards and upwards, COYR!
Well wrote and thanks for the time to write it, I could not get and some remarks on here confuse the performance. Nice to get an detailed performance asessment
Well you went to the same game as me - might not quite agree on all the player ratings but not far out. We definitely were worth at least a point Just a few additional comments from my side Davies - only a 5 from me - we need Turnbull fit as I think Davies will cost us goals this season due to lack of experience and he is too hesitant - Their keeper would have claimed the cross they scored from and I think so would Turnbull. But as a back up keeper and one for the future he looks OK Dudgeon - Id give him a 7 l - looked solid defensively and good passer going forwards - wouldnt be upset if we kept him longer but as you said Smith may make him not needed. Brown I was quite impressed - very solid - just needs to be a bit more positive going forwards but he did put in a couple of great crosses - we definitely should have scored from one of them Berry 5 for me - bit lightweight and didnt seem to know where he was playing - hopefully just needs a couple of games to find his feet but was the weakest of the new recruits otherwise I could have written the player descriptions you did disappointed that we didnt get anything from the game but far too early to be worried enough signs of potential one the players settle in - and Turnbul for and Lita will definitely strengthen the team. Need a win soon to get us up and running thats all
You are all welcome. Its only one fans view though and we all have different views on the same game. I know I like to read as many as I can, so I can gauge the average view of the games I cant get to. Seeing as though 'farnham' went to the same game as me though, I shall def look for your match reports in future!
You'll never get stick on here for being positive and upbeat...try being negative though and they'll think you're depressed!
Aye, he were reight positive on the youngster Danny Rose. Including me in thinking he his lightweight. Looking like patience for some and not for others on here.
I think what some people dont like is when people are negative, without been constructive in trying to find a positive replacement. Or put it another way - complaining for complainings sake! not saying you are at all, in fact i think its much better to have opposite views to every discussion, so long as we are all after a positive outcome - after all as fans we all want the best we can get for our team
For me Rose isnt a 'youngster' anymore, similar to RNL, he has been here a few seasons now and flatters to deceive. They arent just making their debuts this season, but are now seasoned pro's been training/playing under various different managers and havent yet made the breakthrough. I hope im proved wrong and will always back any player in a Reds shirt, but also will give my honest opinions on performances.
