Probably the most skilful Barnsley display I've seen in years. Love to know the match stats and how many shots we had compared to Crewe, who in fairness are a skilful side themselves, but not compared to us. James Bailey will prove to be the best central midfield player in this division by some distance. His range of passing is phenomenal. I can't remember seeing a player in a Barnsley shirt that can do that. And he can tackle. Bree and Mchale look like real prospects. I'd no idea about any of our players, I'd never even heard of them never mind know how they could play. I'd no idea how we were going get on this season. Now I do and they're a hell of a lot better than what we got rid of. Couldn't give a stuff that we lost, or if we lose a few more before it starts to click, I now know we're going to be fine and with the kids that are coming through, we're going to be fine for a long time. Well played reds, don't let your heads drop, it'll come.
its the finishing we lack we had more shots today but when they were on target they were ether at the keeper or far too weak
Like I put in another thread when we click I think we'll give some trans a real tonking with our quick paced attacking play.
Yup. I think it's fair to say things aren't coming off for Winnall just yet, he probably should have had a hattrick, but he can do it, he proved that last season, he's getting in to the right positions and it will come.
Can't find fault I thought we were pretty good a huge leap forward from Saturday really looking forward to the game on Saturday now. A proper Danny Wilson team performance if not result.
I love Bailey already, he's a brilliant player at this level. And I completely agree, there's bags of potential in most of the squad, I think we'll get better & better as the season goes on but my only worry is some fans are already beginning to restless & I hope the board keep backing Danny even if it takes a few months for the potential to turn into results
Yep. You watched the same game as me. Got the ball on the ground and played good football...just lacked the final ball/finish, but that will come. Couldn't agree more about Bailey...great performance..very excited to see more.
Another positive for me (compared to previous seasons).... We now have a few players who seem willing to have a punt from out of the box. Hourihane,, Treacy, and Jennings. That could be ammunition for our strikers - rebounds etc. Got fed up last year of screaming at Perkins and Dawson to crack it.
Twas miles better than Saturday despite Lita and RNL being absent for the majority of the game. Created chances and often players made the wrong decisions. But with better finishing we could have been a couple in front. Thought Lewin looked good, Bailey played some excellent balls but sometimes needs to use the space in front of him before picking a pass. Hourihane cut out quite a few of their passes to gain possssion, Bree was our only outlet wide and McHale came on and had the audacity to try and beat a man, well done lad. Saturday had me worried, tonight I`ll sleep a lot easier.
Didn't go on Sat due to not getting back from hols while late, but I agree with a lot of what Jay posted, it will take time for it to come together but there were positive signs today with the type of game we played. I know it's early days but I am a little worried with the defence, we hardly won a ball in the air and I thought they got through us too easy for their goals, hopefully with the experience of our central defenders that can be worked on. Young Bree looks a promising youngster and McHale looks as though he could be handfull for defenders to play against. Just hope the fans in general give the players and manager time to get it right. Onwards and upwards.
I like the cut of your jib, sir. You're saying exactly the same as a young chap sat at the side of me tonight.
Interesting I didn't go but did listen to the commentary. On that it sounded similar to Saturday and that we were still lack lustre and lacking in something. The commentary implied we were still stuck in practice game mode so it's nice to get a more positive slant. It did sound as though we created and missed a few chances but so did Crewe as well as the 2 they scored it did sound as though McHale made an impact and Treacy had a decent game. But the defence still a cause for concern?
