seems he is yet again appealing and still refusing to admit guilt http://www.change.org/en-GB/petitio...te-ched-evans-as-a-player-at-sheffield-united
i don't really understand why this petition exists, to be honest. do the club really need a petition, to convince them not to do this? if they do, i suspect a petition won't make a blind bit of difference. meanwhile, this man still seems to be plying his trade in football. no mention of petitions here though http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/coventry_warwickshire/3548840.stm
I might start a petition begging them to sign him. That way, anyone who doesn't know the Blunts are scum will soon be appraised of the fact. Go on, Blunts. You know you want to. He's perfect for a club like yours.
Look at the way they behaved over Tevez, their reaction to the Hume incident, their signing of Marlon King. The club is morally bankrupt and will resign Evans without a second thought to the adverse PR it will give the club - they don't care as long as he scores goals. I've no doubt that the majority of their 'elbow gesturing' knuckle-dragging fans will greet him in a manner reserved for the return of a conquering hero.
Not sure about this one. If someone has been found guilty & served their time can't they then go back to their place in society? Not defending a convicted rapist, but talking about rehabilitation. Not sure...
Take your point John and it's a decent one it's just the fact that despite his conviction he admits no guilt or at the very least responsibility for his cations but continues to blacken that poor girls name. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
Maybe I shouldn't have commented, as I haven't read any press on this. My only thing is justice should be justice, not tarring & feathering / chopping off people's hands or hanging them. Whether he got a long enough sentence or is in denial is not really what I commented on, although if you know enough about the case they are very relevant.
I was feeling pretty similar , i posted up the link to see what others though, has he been rehabilitated? is he therefore entitled to rejoin society and re start work? if he wasn't a footballer and a role model for many young kids then it might be different i suppose the fact SUFC seem to be backing him without question makes me feel more than a little uneasy though.
How long has he been in prison for? I don't really understand how he can just walk back into a job after years of not kicking a ball (if it has been that long).
A very good thread to post. If I was a convicted rapist... something I couldn't imagine ... the last thing I would want to do when I came out would be run out to a baying crowd at a football stadium I suspect. As I say I can't make up my mind either.
I saw an interview with his girlfriend on Sky , its clear there is no contritian on Evan's part, she more or less said 'its only because he's a footballer that a fuss is being made' and he should be allowed to continue 'his job' after serving his sentence , the obvious point being missed being anyone having served 5 yrs for rape would be virtually unemployable
I get you, but the point I was making is should someone be unemployable? If I would judge a person ... that conviction would be a massive blot, but I would look at their outlook now & hopefully if they merited it give them a second chance. The biggest issue for me is could the player cope with the media pressure.
I think most sports would have banned him for life ,probably boxing you could make a comeback but as a footballer you mix with juniors and children , unless he is seperated from them in training and not allowed anywhere near young fans he shouldn't be allowed to return......lets face it he's not going to pass a CRB check
He wouldn't be unemployable would he? He just wouldn't be able to work as a footballer. If I got banged up for rape I wouldn't be able to work in my current profession when I got out, and I'm not a role model to thousands of kids. Certain professions are rightfully held to certain standards, and given their status and influence footballers should fall within this group.
The point to me is that the person who should decide you are employable should be your employer, unless the law regulates it. In the case of teachers, etc the law does that. I'm not more on Evans side than I suspect the original poster is / isn't, but as far as I'm aware the government & FA don't have a position on this.
Just playing devils advocate but what if he is innocent but was still found guilty by the jury. I would never admit guilt if I was innocent especially if I'd been wrongly convicted
Got 5 yrs but served 2 yrs. The Blunts fans are more hacked off with the fact he hasnt apologised or admitted responsibility, Would we get our jobs back and still expect the same high wage? (BTW,,,they are still paying him his wage apparently too!!)
