See the jolly chaps at the Premier league are gunning for anyone who posts a goal online http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/28796590 Now I can see how there is a problem to take feed from TV or an online broadcast and repost it But I just wonder how it works for someone filming on a phone and posting on a social site - not in any way a commercial activity I know its a problem as I remember Celebrity Monkeys agent being told she couldnt take any photos of the action on the pitch but what I dont understand is how the copywrite law works if there is no commercial intent
Your at a private event, on private property. The club holds the copyright which they sell out to the FA / Premier League etc.. If it was in a public space, then there's nothing to stop you taking pictures or recording video.
It works like this: If you're an independent writer or a blogger or a small time photographer/video artist, huge media firms can nick your original work with impunity. If, on the other hand, you do anything they don't like, even if it's well within your legal rights, they'll come down on you like a ton of bricks and although the law may be on your side, you won't be able to afford the legal fees to defend yourself, so they'll get their way. That's pretty much all you need to know.
hasn't there just been something similer about a guy who let a camara out to see if monkies took selfies and a firm nicked ( allegedly) the image, the bloke sued but legally the image belonged to the monkey ( not the guy whos camera/idea it was) but if the monkey wanted to sue then it could
think this links nicely to the Man Ure lot who are wanting to ban ipads and such supposedly on the grounds of safety like airlines, blatantly ignoring the fact that you can actually travel with them if you prove they are working!
Never going to work. IFAIK this is mainly about people at home recording the goal from their tv using Sky+ and then posting it on Vine.
Ain't the crack down cos they've sold the rights to places like the Sun who air the goals on their subscription service a few minutes after they've been scored. Not many folk will buy their service if you can get them for free online. (shame). I see Man Utd have also banned iPads and similar tablet devices from their stadium too.
Err copyright... no need to thanks me, no really... ahem I have a friend who is a copywriter which is the only reason I know the difference.
I'm not aware of any laws governing copywriting. Copyright is a different matter though. Yours Pedant
