I know he scored yesterday ( probably harder to miss) but the rest if game he was dreadful. Gave the ball away numerous times Let's hope he improves along with Sam
He's had no pre-season, played very little in the last 12 months, and this was only his second game for us. Wouldn't say he gave the ball away a lot, he might have lost possession a few times but if every striker never lost possession they'd score eight times a game.
He wil improve, as will the entire squad as the season goes on - especially the younger or less experienced ones. However, you may need to manage your expectations with Lita. He's a goal scorer, not much else. I expect his hold up and link play to improve dramatically over the next month, but he's no Craig Hignett. He isn't going to drop deep, pick it up, beat 3 men and smash one in to the top corner from 20 yards. That's just not him. If he scores 20 goals this season then he'll have done his job. I think Winnall just needs a goal. His all round play has been good so far in my opinon.
I'd be overjoyed if either Lita or Winnall scored 20 league goals this term. It's 38 years since we had a striker do that, when Brian Joicey scored 26 in the 1976/77 season.
The thing that struck me about his goal yesterday was that, last season we created many chances like that one, but had nobody to take them. The only one who ever seemed to get anywhere near close was Pedersen. If we create one of those a game, Leroy is good for a goal a game.
That's what all great strikers are like. Anonymous for ages.. Then score that crucial goal. Killer instinct. Garry O'Connor had it until he turned lazy.
I'm not doubting you Kev, but I thought Currie scored 20 league goals in 88-89? (although a lot were penalties and 4 were in one match against Bournemouth)
My knowledge is rubbish, but I thought Currie scored 16 League goals, 1 in the League Cup (against Wimbledon) and 3 in the FA Cup (1 against Chelsea & 2 against Stoke City) that season.
Don't think he was too bad at all to be honest. Like others have said, Lita did his job perfectly yesterday. Right place at right time.
No he scored 20 in total not 20 league goals. Last player to do that was the saintly Ronnie. Last forward was Brian Joicey as mr lil said. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
It's quite incredible when you think about it isn't it. Although both David Geddis and Ashley Ward would have easily cleared 20 if we hadn't sold them mid-season.
