It really is strange for a club in the most successful period in it's history to have not have a forward hitting 20 for nearly 40 years. Especially given the quality of some of the forwards we have had in that time from Aylott to Vaz Te via Currie and Hirst. I think Lita will break the sequence myself. I'm guessing that in our three most successful seasons in recent years - the two promotion seasons and the near miss in the play-offs - we must have had several players in double figures in all of them. Especially in 99-00, we knocked in nearly a hundred goals. Off the top of my head, I reckon that Higgy, Sheron, Bruce and Barnard must all have hit double figures that year. 96-97 - Redders, Super John, Wilko.
Trouble is if he starts firing on all cylinders will he be gone in January, therefore making it impossible. Here is hoping for what you are thinking.
Hope so If he plays **** every week and scores, that'll be fine. A striker who plays well and gives everything but never scores ain't worth ****.
19 league goals and 2 in the play offs (which don't count as league goals for official stats). Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
How many did Bruce Bruce Bruce Dyer get that time? Was it 18 or 19. As it goes, I couldn't give a toss if Lita or whoever gets 20. I'll settle for anything over 15 from all three of Lita, Winnall and Hemmings. To be fair, Sam has had enough chances to already have reached double figures. Hope he's not got Dagnall luck.
To be fair, didn't Dyer get off to a slow start? I'm not good at remembering details of matches gone by but I do remember at lot of talk in our house about him struggling to get his first one after numerous attempts. I thought it was more like 8 or 9 rather then 18 or 19 though!
17 was his best season (twice I think). No I don't really care either it's just a weird phenomena given our success over the last 40 years. Dagnall - life is cruel. Lita will put about as much effort in over a season as he does in 15 minutes but will score 15 more goals. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I'd rather take the positive that my number one pet hate to do with goals scored (conceeding in six yard box, which imo a keeper should never ever do) actually happened for us rather than against us for a change.
Good god what would you have said if he didn't score,it's a good job Ronnie Glavin isn't just signing because he looked rubbish and overweight for first few months,he would have been driven back to Scotland by the likes of you, forgodssake give players a chance to settle in and get fit,i suppose your knife is already been sharpened for winnall
Very impressed by Winnall so far. Does remind me of Daggers actually. Which would make sense. When I watched the game on Player earlier, I couldn't help but be impressed. Even the first half that was apparently bad, I could see the why's and how's behind the approach. And the more the game went on, the more impressed I was. I'm holding onto the belief that this is a squad of lads that barely know each others games, and that some of em are only at 50% of their true form/ability. If that isn't blind faith, and ends up the case, we're going to be very very satisfied I feel. Just watching a team full of lads that I haven't an issue with is a bonus. That may alter in time, obviously. But right now, I'm happy. Even though we've lost twice, at home, without scoring. Which says a lot. Maybe I'm a bad fan for not expecting the world and wanting it right now..? The midfield three of Conor, Berry and Bailey especially please me. Footballers, all three. But grafting n all. My favourite player thus far though? Sam Winnall. It's the Dagnall in him...

I've just finished watching the first half. Apart from the fact that we conceeded a goal, I think we played alright. I'd go as far as saying that if we hadn't lost our first two games people would have been more open minded and wouldn't have thought have considered it bad.
Gary Lineker made a career of goal hanging if Leroy does that for us I will be just fine with that. We have not had a man who is in the right place at the right time for years, so I will take a goal hanger all day thankyou.
I thought that during the first half. There was a lot of talk last season about how the team had a losing mentality, and I certainly think they did - a new set of players has hopefully sorted that out. What I didn't predict but now realise is that 8 years of struggle have given our fans a losing mentality. It's not difficult to see why, of course - this is a set of supporters that haven't seen Barnsley concede first and go on to win in, what, 50-odd games? It's going to take time for us in the stands to get used to the fact that conceding an unlucky goal in the first half doesn't signal the end of the game, or that players can have the odd poor game without not being good enough for the division.
Andy Payton scored 20 goals in the 95-96 season but 3 were in the cups. I remember being gutted that we sold him that summer but I was fortunate enough to meet with Nicky Eaden and Arjan De Zeeuw at that time who more or less told me that they were all glad to see the back of him. I remember Payton not scoring for weeks on end, then 1 went in off his backside at home followed by 2 more great goals for a hatrick.
I'm a pedantic git at times, mate, but I DID use the word 'striker'. As far as I'm aware, only Ronnie Glavin has scored 20 league goals in a season since Brian Joicey.
