Apologies if this is old news. Came as a surprise to me as I was about to go there on Sat to celebrate my son's exam results.

Need to find another decent restaurant now. Any suggestions?

    TIA

What type of food do you fancy going for? No point folks suggesting an Indian restaurant if you don't like that food :)

    Bloody hell....Ardsley House closed?

used to do a fair bit of boozing there ....sneaking in do's in the Fitzwilliam suite as a young fellow. Joplins was the hotel bar i think....even had a downstairs cellar type bar at one time.

i got married there too when they first got a license approx 10 years ago.

    what happened ffs?

Old post office. They bring raw meat to your table to select the size.

Good call dude. Yep, I should have thought of that.

It's my Son's call so I'd say Indian, Chinese, Thai or English/American are all ok.

I was going to push the boat out as he's done amazing in his GCSEs.

Strongly recommend Malagor Thai, in Ossett. I know it takes you outside the Barnsley Wall, but it's well worth it. Better than any of the $hit Barnsley has on offer

After Mr P sold up it was taken over by different hotel chains, eventually fell in the hands of someone who didn't have a clue, ended up with more foreigners working there than the chicken factory on Wombwell. My mum did her last shift there a few weeks ago after nearly 40 years service, it was a sad place at the end compared to what it used to be like.

Someone should have tipped cola down the fcuker.

Ardsley House closed? Blimey, it used to be Barnsley's premier hotel!

My niece had her wedding reception there - with Toby Tyke and Arjan de Zeeuw in attendance.

Wondering what went wrong so drastically.

Many congratulations to your lad on his excellent exam results. I expect the entire family are over the moon.

Thanks. Yes, we're chuffed to bits for him.

I want to treat him now and so a nice meal out to celebrate his achievement and a ticket for the Gillingham game will be a good start. I did promise him a car as well which I may now live to regret.

Need to think of something more embarrassing than the yellow Fiat in the Inbetweeners.

I'd treat him to a meal style of his choice and conveniently forget about promises of a car!:D

Not sure about that. Plenty of competition for it now especially with all those hotels on the western side of Barnsley.

Congratulations to all. And as for a suitable place to celebrate, I suggest you check out the 'bocelli's barnsley' website - absolutely superb!
