And the scoreline flattered them, it could easily have been 8 or 9. To be fair to Gillingham, they tried to play football, but our players are much, much better than there's, our tactics and system is far superior and they simply couldn't cope. We took the ball from them in all areas of the pitch and attacked on mass. It's a long time since we've handed out a football lesson like that. There's no way on earth the side we had last season could play the way the side we have now are capable of playing. To be honest, I didn't see a great deal of difference from what I saw against Crawley and Crewe. It's just that this time we got a goal and the confidence grew. We're a good side. It was obvious to me from the first two home games we were a good side. And we're going to get better, a lot better. We're still going to lose games. Some big, experienced sides will come to Oakwell and old man us, kick us up and down and get a goal from a set piece. Don't embarrass yourself when that happens. Praise should be handed out to our entire team. There were some excellent performances, but I'm just going to single out Brad Abbot. He may not have been the best player on the pitch, but that was his first ever senior appearance. He played like he'd got 200 games under his belt. Every week I see a young Barnsley player who I've never seen before and ever week I'm more and more impressed. Exciting times.
Pretty much sums up my thoughts. I hope we can get a longer term left back in place, Dudgeon is a great fit for the set up we currently have, him or someone similar are key to us finishing top half or contending this season in my opinion.
Agree with all that and in fairness Gillingham didn't resort to kicking us off the pitch which some teams might have done.
thanks for that fella, appreciated well from me at least. Not gonna go getting any hopes up yet.. BUT.. its a wonderfully warm happy feeling to have won... and won well, not scrappy or flukey either... and its wonderful to be in the zone that's called the 'PROMOTION ZONE'... even though its THIS early in the term.
in all respect to the Gill's they are a side that have always tried to play football, through hard work, well that's my observation of them over the years.. Taylor is also a good manager who advocates that. You may have noticed a young lad playing today Jake Hessentaller... his Dad 'Andy' was always a heart and soul player who gave his all... and he did manage them a while too. my point is this... we have beaten, and beaten well, a team... a football club... who base themselves on good football, not bullyboy football... and that is a good testament to our NEW team. I am gonna be interested to see how we cut it when we do meet the 'BullyBoy' kinda teams .
Dream on Those teams will come to Oakwell and they will beat us. We have just avoided racking up the worst home run (apparently) ever. Ever. Where will we end up in this league come next April/May? Nobody knows. We have some exciting players who have recently been brought in. We have nobody so far who can actually take another player on. Unless you tell me Dale can (who got sent off cos he'd been worked out by his marker). These are wait and see times. Abbott needs encouragement but not ******** like he looked as though he'd played for us for years. Which in itself is being damned with faint praise. Gillingham were awful. We beat them. That's it.
I particularly like the bit about not having anyone who can take a player on. Don't know what to say to that
err that's Jay btw (the first class appraisal) you can only play whats in front of you and yes different game when we meet cloggers personally going to celebrate with the medium of beer!!! wow 4-1 ........4 bloody 1
It's not an opinion, it's the start of argument. I've got far better things to do than argue with someone who made up his mind about Wilson a long time ago and isn't going to change it no matter how the evidence presents itself to the contrary. We're all supposed to support Barnsley on here, you don't, you pull us to pieces at every available opportunity and I'm not interested in that. Watching the games is not the same as supporting what is happening. If I'm a bit giddy about my own club, so what, why would anyone want to think differently about the side they love? So, this is the last time I'm going to bother responding to you. I gave up responding to your threads months ago. You keep responding to mine attempting to start an argument. I don't want one, so the floor is yours.
I agree with all of that. I couldn't understand a lot of the negativity after the Crewe & Crawley defeats, there only seemed to be me, you & a couple others that took encouragement from a lot of good football that we played. I felt it might take a month or two for us to gel but it looks like it's happened already. I feel the only thing Wilson needs to do now is to extend Cole & Dudgeon's loans until the end of the season. Abbott did well. It's what you want to see on a debut, he looked calm, played simple football & he always seemed to be in the right position. He looks to be a very capable back up to Bailey
I think we might struggle to extend the loan of Cole beyond January. If he's as good as the glimpses we've seen then I would imagine a Championship club will be in for him for the second half of the season and Man City may want him tested at that level. But if we can that'd be great. Getting Dudgeon's loan extended should be a priority though. Other than giving the penalty away he looked very good today.
Agreed, Dudgeon's class. First thing on Danny's To Do List, next week...Get him signed up at least till next window...preferably for season.
Spot on Jay, we looked a class apart today and at times we threatened to steamroller them. On that showing the top six is well within our reach.
