not seen hourihane play yet. but hearing good reviews, has notched a couple already, happy to shoot from distance and can dink the odd free kick in. could he be the 'redders' we've been looking for all these years?

Hourihane has proper quality IMHO. Destined for a higher level, hopefully with us

Wait until you see Bailey at his best. I reckon he's going to be the real star. Haven't seen anyone at Oakwell pass the ball like he did in the Crewe home game for a long, long time. I don't just mean a Barnsley player, anyone. It was a master class.

Hourihane looks quality too like. I'm not going to mention the name because it heaps far too much pressure on him, but we all know who he reminds us of.

Hope Bailey can stay fit, because those 2 centrally could potentially be better than any we've had in recent years if they gel.

Bailey and Hourihane or Dawson and Perkins?

"We can't even afford ******* Dawson!"

Yes we can, it's just that we've offered him peanuts because he's not going to be a first choice player, just back up if we need a bruiser to see out a match. We're spending our money on far better than him.

Puts it into contrast a bit. And also why being a bit more circumspect is long term, the way to go.

Nice to see an all round midfielder rather than someone just being an attacking one or a defensive one. Best midfielder we've had since Hignett for me.

He will be, you're absolutely right. He gets into better positions as a proper central midfielder than have (IMHO) since Drinkwater. When (and he will) learns which is the right pass then he'll be a superstar. At the minute, I'm just enjoying having a midfielder who wants to go forward all the time.

    I still miss Dawson though.

Like we said on Saturday, it's as if Danny knows what he's doing. Which must be b.llocks.

    Like I miss Mike Flynn.

Early days yet, and we've some dour defeats to come after a team of 7' hoofers have come and bullied us, but signs are surely there of a decent team forming.

We're playing against some right ***** in this league, comparing this lot, to players like Higgnet Redfearn & Drinkwater who played for us at a higher level, Is wrong on so many levels in my opinion, don't get me wrong we look to have a very good squad forming for this level but that's it this level, if they get us promoted and kick on that's the time to compare them to true grates of the clubs,

Well Hourihane came from League 2 so his step up must have been hard.

    You're bang on.

Hourihane looks an outstanding league one player but he's incomparable to past greats because he's playing at a lower level.

If you've not noticed the difference in class between league one and championship you must be watching with your eyes closed, there is the odd exception where a player can step up and do well at the level above, but don't start lording these young uns, with the likes other club legends on the showings so far, Higgnet & Redfern where up their with the best in the second tier of English football, and none of these are at that standard at the moment,of that I'm sure,

I think your slightly off the mark (or I am). Aren't people looking at potential legends in the peer group they currently play? Redfearn, Hignett etc were measured as class acts only within the league and against the opposition they were playing against. In that era they played against a lot of poor teams too. People are now seeing potential in some of our young talent right now, but they can only be measured (as were the other legends mentioned) within the context i.e. league, opposition, era in which they are playing. You rightly state that the legends mentioned were up there with the top of the 2nd tier. We are measuring these today against players in the 3rd Tier.I don't think anyone is making out that everything is equal, otherwise Redfearn wouldn't have been anywhere near a legend if we measured him in the context of the 1966 England WC team.

I know what you're saying, but we heard week after week how good Rose Digby RNL Oates and others we're going to be because of there exploits in under 21s look at um now they can't hold down a place in 3rd division, people didn't take into account what they were playing against, and the same is happening here they do look a class above what they're up against but what are they up against exactly ?

I agree, but they are up against the very best of the third tier (and also some poor players). We can only judge now. If (I choose if carefully) we get promoted then some players will become legends. Not because they were any better than our past legends, nor better than L1 or Prem players, but because they achieved something and contributed more than many others in this league and wrote a piece of our positive history.
