that several on here seem satisfied with that game tonight. It was garbage. The team looked disjointed, rarely stringing passes together until Hemmings came on and we were lucky that York couldn't hit a barn door such was their domination particularly in the first half. The only redeeming factor was 2 good goals following rare spells of decent play. Of course once it was 2 nil it became easier but we will have to do a lot better than that if we are to make the necessary progress.
I think it goes without saying we will have to play better But we were crap first half and still went in 0-0 Last season we would have been 3-0 down Don't give a toss how we play if we get through Onwards and upwards Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
said exactly the same mate,we were lucky to come in 0-0 at half time.Hopefully it was all part of the paint pot game plan. Cracking goals tho'
Its clear to see why danny is after a target man, we have no real outball when under pressure, but i just can't see how a league 1 side can justify or satisfy 5 first team striker's if we got one. A natural right back is a must before brown become's a whipping boy and his confidence is destroyed and a holding midfielder to compliment huorihane(sic) would also be nice although i could see berry being that kind of player given time.
Just a team going through the motions against a side they expected to beat without putting the graft in. Wilson must've gave them a bit of a bollocking at half time & they improved & won. Poor performance but we're through without any injury problems so satisfactory night. I'd be concerned if we put a performance in like that in a league game though
I see what you're saying tosh but is it not a case of us playing badly again and getting a result? I don't know as I wasn't there so I am just reading the opinions of people on here who did go.
OK, but isn't it nice to come out on top despite not playing excellent for a change. Also we can't play brill all the time ....
Last season though we were playing championship sides, not division four sides. Playing a team two leagues lower than you were earlier this year will do that to you.
Playing badly and getting a result is all well and good Mario, but what annoys me is that when we were in possession we gave it away almost immediately without being forced by the opposition (on too many occasions). Keep doing that and the luck will run out.
I'm not. Last few seasons when we were losing all the time I was. This season, 5 undefeated, not so much. Not that I think we played well tonight, York out fought us and outplayed us first half, but we played well within ourselves in the second period and in the end it was quite comfortable. I guess the main reason I'm not concerned is that I'm not expecting promotion. I'm not ruling it out, but we're a very young side and to remain consistent is going to be difficult. To beat some of the more physical teams in the division will be too. What I wanted to see this season is a better style of football, a side that goes out each week to win the game not hope they don't lose, a few hammerings of the opposition and to win more than we lose at Oakwell. So far, all the boxes are being ticked.
Miles better when Hemmings came on, far too many long hopefully balls to lightweight strikers in first half which I found a bit bizzare. Also Brown was poor at right back. I had Cole to score anytime and I was very worried after the first half!
I think that's a fair summary of the first half, but there was a vast improvement in the second. We kept the ball for long periods and produced some fast and incisive attacking football.
I'd take a below par performance, with a win, over a great performance with a loss. Yes, its awesome to play well and win. We haven't done that very often though over the last few seasons. Plus its great to see us taking our chances when we have them. UTR
My concern was that some on here seemed happy with tonight's game. Winning 2 nil covered quite a few cracks. I'm still waiting for the better style of football that I wish to see. At the moment its marginally better because the end results are there.
I'm not sure why it's a 'concern' that people see some positives from the game mate. I haven't read a post yet that doesn't acknowledge we were dreadful in the first half, and of course that gives Danny food for thought. The BBC stats show we had 12 shots, 9 of which their keeper had to save. Given we didn't have a shot till the 44th minute, that means the 2nd half yielded 11 shots, 8 on target. Many of those were decent chances and we could easily have scored 2 more than we did. That's a good half's work against any opposition, and it gives me optimism that we can - as Jay says - win a few games well and win more than we lose at home. That would be a good season for me too.
I couldn't make it last night so can't comment on the match itself. However, looking back at all the banana skins we've slipped on over the years in first-round cup games (Rochdale, Morecambe, Crewe and so on) I'll take a win in any way we can get it.
The first half was dire. Danny had to change things at half time, it did and it worked. I just wish he could alter things as the game progressed instead of fighting to half time, which at another time could have been game over. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
