Asked which football team you support you have to justify it, and explain why.
On radio, at work, or in a pub, I've asked many people and nearly ever time this happens,

This morning on talksport presenter said let's go to the west end and Dave the United fan hiha Dave, whatcha Al (yeah I've been a season ticket holder 35 years) reason I'm calling I think letting Welbeck go the gooners is a massive mistake.

A new lad starts at our place, who's tha support pal ? Chelsea I've been a Chelsea fan since 1988, as tha I never asked how long but nice one.

City fans on talksport, first thing they say I was their in late 90s in 3rd division, then start talking about what they phoned up for,

When asked who I support I say

    Barnsley

Glory fans always tend to do it.

And on line one we have Mike, a Man Utd fan from Devon...

I loathe the Barnsley born & bred (insert any PL club in ere especially Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal) 'fan' who rounds their own self justification by adding the old classic ''but I like to see Barnsley do well''........ aaaaggghhh well thanks, the lads will give it 150% for you on Setdi whilst you're w4nking yourself silly int Walkabout when (insert some over paid johnnie foreigner in ere) scores!

Not that it bothers me much like;-)

Maybe folks see it as a loaded question with it coming from a football fan and are on the defensive straight away.

I never used to justify the fact I supported Man Utd aswell as Barnsley but after years of being called a glory supporter I always explain why straight away because I'm sick of getting called something I'm not

And let's face it if I was a glory supporter I would have swapped to the blue half of Manchester by now.

Barnsley are my 1st club and always will be

Not really, barnsley are my hometown team and man utd are the team that my grandad supports and as he brought me up I was persuaded to support them aswell.

Not to mention he was the person who took me to my first few barnsley matches.

I dont hide the fact I'm a man Utd fan. I followed united and went to watch them long before I was a Barnsley fan.

Though Barnsley are my number 1 team now, I still try to get yo a few united games. I don't tend to justify supporting united but I do quite often get asked why I follow united and bfc and who I would want to win.

As I only get pocket money and all of it goes to watching Barnsley I've only been to 1 Man Utd game but once I've got the money I'll definitely go to more.

I don't see why it's a problem supporting 2 teams, the thing that annoys me is when people stop supporting a team because they're not doing well.

The last time I went to Hillsborough a little kid walked out of his house in full Chelsea attire, not 50 yards from the Leppings Lane end.

Genuinely can't understand Barnsley people of my generation (kids in the late 90s) not supporting their local team though. Premiership for a season, one of the top teams in the division a couple of seasons either side, and they still support United or Liverpool. A lot of people I went to school with support the Wendies who to be fair are local and were in the Premiership when we were all just getting into football, but Barnsley was still our hometown team yet hardly anyone at my school supported them.
