I agree Labour are too far to the right and Tony Blair is/was a slightly watered-down Tory. However, I still believe that we can fight from within with the Labour party and therein lies a big difference in the 2 Parties. We're a long way from this at the moment but I remain hopeful. Perhaps a very narrow Scottish No vote may see a turn to the left, we'll see?
If I had a vote I would vote no. Mainly for the reasons Mark outlined. Thing is - why do they get to vote to stay or go? When do we get to vote if they should be allowed to stay or not?!!
This is another reason the Scots have a dislike of the English. You do not own us. In fact you don't own anyone. We in Scotland are voting to stay in a fair and equal society. Not one where its assumed we have masters.
I'd vote Yes, as I believe it's an inalienable right for a country to have self-determination and not be ruled wholly or partly by any other nation. The right of independence for any country should be decided by it's own citizens and not by those of any other country. Whether the Scots think the same way, I haven't the foggiest.
Never said anything about anyone owning anyone else. On the plus side we wouldn't have to be inconvenienced by SPL coverage on English TV and in English papers.
Conan sorry but I read your comment that you'd like a vote as to whether we should stay or go. Anyway mate lighten up what ever will be will be. And as for watching SPL, does your TV not have an off/on switch. What i can't understand is some of the folk hoping we lose this opportunity. Prefering Scotland that small nation of parasites who give nothing to the union to remain in UK.
The line about having a Tory government forever is a myth mate, it's just scaremongering http://internationalsocialist.org.u...nd-leave-england-to-generations-of-tory-rule/
Just wish it was all over, I've had enough of it. The worst thing about to a 'yes' vote is that it would go on and on for 18 months whilst the ts and cs are negotiated. My granddad died flying a fighter plane against Hitler's bombing raids against Scotland and Northern England. My other granddad died prematurely from mesothelioma mining coal to keep the whole UK working. They were both English and I know from my parents were proud Britons. Given, the sacrifices made for the whole UK by my family, if the sweaties want to **** off on their own, just to have a bairn at the fact the Tories are in power through the very democratic process that so many British lives were lost for, then off they can go. We will all be the poorer, economically and culturally if there is a yes and just as the UK emerges from recession it will be at a huge risk of returning. Oh, and Ian, whilst I respect your view and like your posts, it is the Yes campaign that are the ones dictating terms - check out the assumptions being made about what forces Scotland would take from the UK, NATO membership, sterling usage etc etc, without any care for the views of the rest of the countries that are concerned in each case.
Exile my father also served in WW2 in the RN on board an aircraft carrier. Fortunately he did survive or I wouldn't be here today. I can't speak on anyone else's behalf but I'n not voting yes just because the torries are in power. I'm voting yes to hopefully live in a more prosperous country and live in a more equal and just society. My feeling on the torries and their agendas differ very little from the majority of Englanders from the north of England. Many of whom would wish to have this opportunity to go it alone. And why not? We have the resourses and the will we just ATM don't have the means to make our own decisions to promote a wealthier Scotland. Only 6 days to go. Should we fail it will be interesting to find out what extra powers we will get. Obviously it will not involve oil revenues as this is what both Scotland and England want. Should the extra powers not amount to much I can see us going through all this again in 5 or 6 years time.
You could be right, maybe too many people voting with their hearts and those voting with thier heads have too much oil sloppig about in it. I hope it works out for the best whichever way it goes.
If Labour had done to Scotland what they've done to England they wouldn't be so keen on them I don't think, another couple of terms from them and the whole of England would have been like Tower Hamlets. Meanwhile Scotland is still about 95% white.
Correct. I think if Scotland votes yes the next few years might see new parties. I would not vote Labour because of their incompetence with the economy. The liberals and Greens are dreamers, and the Eton clique Conservatives are for their mates and the city. We need further choices.
