Was listening to a 'Yes' campaigner on Radio Four a couple of days back. Ticked all the boxes of a tight fisted Scottish cliche. "It's our oil and why should we share it?" Yes voters - tick these boxes: - Oil will pay for everything; - We're sticking it up the English. Particularly the Tories; - We're all going to get free everything. Prescriptions. Education. Houses. You name it; - We'll keep the pound. Or something. Don't worry about it; - Who needs a defence policy? The English can pay for it. Particularly the Tories; For some people independence means that they take care of themselves. For the Scottish it means that everyone else will take care of Scotland - but nobody else will have any say in Scottish politics. The way this is shaping up, it will be: 1) a five year piss-up for the SNP while they give everything to everyone, bankrupt the country and come crawling back to either a union with Britain OR they try to worm their way into Europe; OR 2) SNP don't deliver on their promises (what - no way? surely not?) and a load of grumpy Scots realise that they're not going to get limitless everything for free and then have to actually come to terms with balancing the books; I swear there will be Scottish people walking into shops the day after they vote for independence expecting to walk out with stuff for nothing. That's why Salmond is doing so well - there's nothing like a Jock who thinks he's going to get something for nothing, and in getting that something he's doing over England. How can Salmond fail?
This is Scotland and Scottish Independence http://youtu.be/d8CjxhWptS4 This is what is happening in Scotland. It is so embarrassing to see a country once known for it's dry cynical humour having it's pants pulled down as they get the world's biggest rush of blood from listening to Alex Salmond offering everything for free. "Come on! We can have everything for free - the oil will pay for it, and what we don't contribute to Trident! And we're ****ing the English over too! Ha ha!" I can see this working out just fine. All sounds legit to me.
Unfortunately I think you are right in many cases (but certainly not all) and our friend Ian knows this too. An un-educated vote is not a healthy thing for Scotland. Good luck to them though if they vote yes.
Sorry Ian but I really don't see how you have come to that conclusion, the debate was between the woman and the female politician.
My view is the woman directed the question to Miliband. Alexander took it on to save Miliband answering knowing full well that he might not come out of the situation too well. Lamont also took it on the Miliband slinked away. At the end of it all the lassie's question was left unanswered. " Do you think it acceptable for the country to spend billions on Trident when I cant get a house" Now that question deserved a straight yes or no answer and not one of them gave her the respect she deserved.
No it doesn't deserve a straight yes or no because it's a far more complex issue than that. The 2 are not connected, you can build housing and have Trident. As it happens I oppose Trident but not because it's stopping houses being built. A straight yes or no merely provides the soundbite that the media would want or the Yes campaign would want because either way they'd have a stick to beat him with. It wasn't that he was stood there searching for an answer, the other 2 were straight in with responses. Anyway, you read into that it was disgraceful behaviour and that's your opinion which you are entitled to. I watched Andrew Marr this morning and Alistair Darling came across very poorly, he keeps saying that "we don't have answers" to this or that. As I see it there are answers, whether they are satisfactory answers are up to interpretation but he does sound like a broken record.
Of course it deserves a straight Yes/No answer. Getting a house is possibly the only important thing going on in that lassies life ATM. And in seeing MPs in the street she grasped the opportunity as I'm sure you might has as well. In days gone by that confrontation would have not been heard except by the few by standers but in this age of mobile phones and internet that film has gone round the country and TBH possibly added thousands of votes to the Yes side. Huge own goal by Miliband there.
We are giving aid to Scotland under the Barnett formula. Even if the vote is 'NO' this should be stopped.
Pleased to see that Miliband is spinless though - there's been far too much spin by politicians in recent years!
How can she make money if she closes her legs. Let them vote yes. They will be fecked in 5 years. Unless we bail them out. We'll have comic relief aimed at the poor children of Scotland. Because they all swallowed the patriotic drivel of salmond
Cant lie. I was just seeing what your response would be but now im intrigued if she has a partner yet they still cant afford ANY property then id be interested in seeing why.
Not everyone wants to be a house owner. Preferring instead just to rent. Don't you think you might just be unfairly judging her? There is still a lack of decent houses for rent.
To be fair I think it's more than likely that what she is after is some social housing, so someone else can pick up most of the tab.
