Head Teacher called me into his office and sang my praises for a bit and asked me if I'd take on another subject as I've done so well with mine (no extra pay but double non-contact time in which to do it). He also asked me to think about how I want my career to progress as he thinks I'm ready to move up the ladder. I've no idea about the second part to be honest but it was nice to know that he's noticed my efforts at work. Our old head retired just before the six week holidays and the deputy took his place.
Well done. It's always good to know your boss at work makes you aware they recognise & appreciate your efforts and contributions.
Good to hear. My work seems less secure these days for reasons I cannot divulge. It will also be interesting to see what they decide if Scotland get the "yes" vote - I might get a move back to England(finally)
I am currently the History manager and I'm now going to take on Geography too so they do link pretty well. He was talking about creating a humanties role for me and bringing in other subjects but I'm not sure how that would work as we already have managers of the other subjects he was talking about.
well done you! i went back to work on monday, after a couple of weeks of hollibobs. started the day with post-holiday blues, finished the day with a promotion and a sweet sweet pay rise. reminded me that work isn't all bad
We used to get that all the time from our boss, "there's 50,000 people working for **** who'd kill for your job" And then we got a Swedish boss and everything is bbq's and high fives.
I'm really enjoying it and so are the children - especially the Spanish boy with very little English in my class, who really comes out of his shell during those lessons.
The private sector seems pretty stable now and people are now leaving of their own volition (which has rarely happened in the last few years) so they're going to have to change something.
Hee hee so, after having learnt some Spanish over the summer, you find yourself teaching it to a class of your kids, only to discover that one of them is Spanish! No pressure there then? Glad it's going well, every success with it.
Yeah, I know!! I was bricking it but actually he's been a great help. Also, he's gone from not speaking at all and having a face devoid of all expression (literally just blank), to joining in avidly in Spanish with a big grin on his face and attempting to quietly speak English in other lessons.
Congratulations JamDrop....as an old cynical head though, I would say just be a little beware of promotions that don't involve extra money, in my first job I was promoted from the bottom lab to the top lab, in practice it just meant whichever lab was working late I had to stop and help them!!!
Yes, I was a bit cynical too when I reflected back on the conversation about 10 minutes later and began wondering if I had just been taken as a mug. He said to let him know this week but I'm happy to take it on as no bugger else seems to know what they are doing! He was also more than hinting at a promotion that does involve extra money, he is keen for me to take on a management role and asked me what I would like that to be. The trouble is that I don't know if I even want that role, I'm perfectly happy just being class teacher to be honest.
