It's not as though it's going to drop through your letter box. Effectively things like this will be factored in to overall police expenditure. The EDL have a right to protest, the police have a duty to protect the public and ensure they can go about their business.
did the edl go round attacking people, or was it ironically the anti-fascist trying to stop people democratically marching
"Democratically marching?" That's one way to describe it. Another way is "a load of p1ssed up knuckle dragging skinheads capitalising on a recent news story in an attempt to spread hatred and divide the community."
Has this figure been confirmed with evidence or has someone just plucked the figure from thin air in the hope that we take their word for it? Seems alot of money.
The point Ippon made in his initial thread was that when local derbies take place in football the kick off time is often changed to cut down on the possibility of trouble and, as a result, to cut the amount needed to police it. He suggested the same should be done for the EDL march. Don't think he ever suggested banning it, just moving it to a time that wouldn't incur such costs. I think he's got a point, the vast majority of us go to football matches to watch a game not for confrontation. If the police can move us about, why can't they move a march which seems to me is designed specifically for confrontation.
so because they don't follow your views they've no right to march....................... sorry SIEG HEIL, very ironic, I mean do you have to be teatotal and have a degree to march, whats the entry level 4x4*a levels and a desmond to hold the mega-phone
Just tell us if you agree with the EDL..... I don't disagree with their right to march. Neither to I disagree with anyone marching against them. Having said that, if the day ever comes for England to be defended, the average EDL "member" won't be much use...
I agree with SOME of what they say as I do with Cameron and milliband but don't assign my alligence to any particular party. the thing is the anti- facists ( or whoever it was that also marched) only did so because the edl were marching, you got to ask yourself WHY if not just to cause conflict, did they do all the right things toget permission to march if not then its them that's causing the trouble, if they did then its the polices fault for allowing two opposing views/sides to march on the same day/route. why is it that people nearly always call rightwing groups knuckle dragging feckwits or drunkards ( I'm not saying that some of them aren't but that applies across the board to all groups)
Did he? All I read was Surely it works very differently though, moving a football match is fairly simple in that once the game is at a different time then those attending turn up at the new time - a march is a little more difficult as people will congregate at the time they want.
Where do they get these figures from? A lot of those police will have been on duty anyway so it's a cost that's already covered in their salary, so not really genuine to pin it to specific costs for this march. Even if they had to bring in overtime, how many police were there. Let's be generous and say £200 per officer on OT, that's 15-20k coppers. I know that there are other costs to cover andII've simplified it but I just don't see how they reach that figure.
Yes, he did. It was only two days ago EastStander and you replied to it. It's not our fault you've got the memory of a goldfish. http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/showthread.php?216038-EDL-in-Rotherham-tomorrow
Police were brought in from other areas including Wales. There will be transport, food, and accommodation costs to factor in the figures.
Sorry - I was responding on here to what was in this thread. I don't recall everything that people have written elsewhere and my response was in reply to what I quoted. p.s. And having just looked back at that I didn't directly respond to him but to what someone else posted. Anyway, I'm glad he decided to start a separate thread on how much he thinks it's a waste of money. I guess it is a waste of money, but what can you do when the EDL are prepared to waste their time?
How many police were there? If it were 1000 all coming from Wales, you're looking at up to £4k per man.
I don't find their views any more palatable than most people but they are entitled to march so just let them get on with it and ignore them. The AFL cause as many problems as the EDL and yet the claim the moral high ground when to be honest they are no more entitled to it than the thugs in the EDL.
That is what the police are for. Given the choice I am pretty sure they would take an EDL only march any day of the week. They dont need the AFL there to pour petrol on the flames.
