Hourihane's on 4 consecutive league games, surely he's close to the club record.

    Well...

At the beginning of 1950/51 Cec McCormack scored in 6 consecutive games (getting a whopping 13 goals), but the best is Abe Blight in 1933/34, who scored in 7 consecutive games. He actually scored in 4 consecutive games, then went a game without scoring, before scoring in 7, so it could easily have been 12!

Craig Davies I seem to remember scoring four or five times on the bounce.

More pertinent to our recent crop of strikers is who went the longest run of games without scoring.

I was looking earlier, Davies went 4 on the bounce and Vaz Te 5 on the bounce at the same time. They scored about 18 goals between them in the space of about 12 games.

Didn't Clint Marcelle score four in the first four games that season and then only one more league goal in the next six months? And, despite the credit he gets nowadays for being our last decent striker (he's not!), didn't Shipperley once go something like 18 games without a goal, and rarely even being subbed during that spell. I recall him being a bit of a boo boy at the time.

Shipperley is the best centre forward I've seen for us. Well, him and Ashley Ward are hard for me to separate. I go with Shipps because he's a fat, ugly bugger, whereas Wardy had film star good looks. But aye, both were amazing. So much so, that when we do the monthly 'best XI' thread on here, they're the two lads up front for me. Imagine them in their pomp together.

But he did go off the boil occasionally in terms of goals, but he was always more than a goalscorer. Folk said COGba was the best since Shipps. He probably was, although I thought Ferenczi and Davies were decent too, but none of them were anywhere close to being as quality as Neil Shipperley was for us, and Ashley Ward was just un-bloody-real, lets be reight.

What about Mike Sheron? He went what felt like 12 years without scoring once upon a time in the 90's. But he'd score in patches. Not many rated him. I did. And his goalscoring record weren't that bad really.

Sheron's goalscoring patches were always around Christmas time. I've even been told he was similar with other clubs. Is this the time of year that contracts are negotiated I wonder?

I often thought Sheron was simply 'too intelligent' for most of our other players at the time. He'd play a great pass (that I was calling for occasionally) only for the other player to not read it.

He had a great run at one point, can't remember the figures but it was something like 11 in 12 or 11 in 15. Included a goal at Bramall Lane which I remember being at. Think Kevin Miller was in goal.

It was when Don was here, unfortunately.

I remember Sheron nearly taking the netting out with a piledriver at Huddersfield. I nearly died of shock. He just didn't score goals like that.

Totally agree. Shipperley was the best striker we have ever had. Great with is feet. Just a brilliant footballer.
