One question. Why do YOU think he needs to lose some weight? People just having something to moan at?
I personally don't mind a footballer having a bit of weight, but I can understand some people's disappointment that a modern day pro footballer, especially one who has spent time at Bayern, isn't in super shape.
He is in shape. If he wasn't he'd be coming off after half time. His strength helps him more than it makes him ****
It's a joke, innit? Fat Dale. He's not fat. He's just big boned, stocky, likes his food. Bit like Fat Frank Lampard. Not an ounce of fat on him. The lad's not playing as well as we expected him to, so it's just easy to call him a fat basterd etc. Especially if tha pissed.
He's certainly carrying more bulk than last season but it worked to his advantage last night. Players tried knocking him off the ball (when they could catch him) and couldn't, so resorted to hacking him down instead. He's still got pace, and a couple of goals will get his confidence up.
You're right to an extent. He is best when directly running at the opposition. However, this also exposes his limitations. On a good day, the 'run straight at back 4, cut inside and shoot' pays off and the goals he's scored have been pretty special. But on a bad day, when defenders with a bit of nous show him outside he's exposed as a very limited, one dimensional footballer. He's been with us for a long while now and I still can't work out if he's any good or not. Perhaps 'inconsistent' is the best word. Played well last night though.
I thought he looked quite a bit bigger on Saturday than last season. I don't think he's fat, I'm sure he's 100 times 'fitter' than me else he wouldn't be playing, but I'd imagine he could be a bit leaner. If it's all about not being knocked off the ball we might as well sign Akinfenwa. Yes you need to be tough, but that doesn't mean overweight (for him/a pro footballer etc).
Don't think Jennings has any fitness issues. My concern is his decision making, constantly making the wrong decisions & off form, I hope he can get back to his January - March form
